You don’t go to TJHSST by any chance, do you?

^That’s what I was thinking…

My niece attended that school. 15 of her classmates ended up at MIT. There are no AP classes etc. She received funding for HS research. Now a freshmen in med sch. Chanced upon ranking - USNWR #1 in the Nation!
GPA 3.65 if at TJHSST is a different matter.

IF you higher your GPA, then you should be fine.

Do BS/MD programs care at ALL about Weighted GPA? So, if your UW is terrible and your W is dece, does it help to compensate?

Usually UG’s strip down GPA to UW and consider rigor of classes in combo with GPA. Also, they are aware of some HS’s. Do not forget that bs/md is part of UG.

I was premed and had good grades but was one of the 80% that didn’t get into a medical school. However, my D is in her 2nd year of a 8 yr BA/MD program. She picked it over an ivy!

It is the way to go since she will not have to go for 2 dozen medical school interviews and not 200-300 hours of study for MCATs.

The most important thing is the 80 kids in the college program stick together despite some being upper classmen. There is no cut throat competion since everyone works together like a sports team. When I went to school it was every man (or woman) for himself regarding grades in labs, recommendations, extra points etc. With my D she just has to maintain a 3.5 gpa. so she will have more of a college experience than beating her brains out in the ivy league. The ones graduating medical school give their apartments to the freshman entering Med school and it is like a big fraternity.

Finally, if you really feel in your heart you want to be a doctor be focused and get through it now! You will be 30 or 31 when you hang your shingle so why delay your journey finding yourself.

Where did you get in? I really like to see how everybody made out since these combined programs are more on the level than than many ivy admissions.

Please advice if i should even apply to any direct BA/MD program. Brown/BU/Drexel/umkc?

You could be a competitive applicant, but your SAT would need to be significantly higher.

Thx much. Since i am running out of time to apply should i even apply to any program, or should i not bohter, and go pre med route.

You have time to apply, but you can forgo the progs and focus on regular UGs if you feel you can’t do both.

I am trying one more time for SAT.

I can apply for both prog I have time. but if i have almost no chance based on stat then I should not apply.

Out of curiosity, is it possible to become a family doctor but then choose to focus more on one age group?

https://nf.aafp.org/FellowshipDirectory/search

Not sure about focus unless you do a fellowship with a focus. The above link provides the type of fellowships possible after the residency.

Thanks for the info.

usciences/tcmc bs md program question.
•TCMC has a strong interest in you if you are a Pennsylvania student…this is from usciences website. Since this program only guarantes an interview with TCMC (for seven seats), would it make sense to apply if you are from california. usciences is unranked.

I’m in the accelerated BA/MD program. It depends on which program you are looking at. I think that GPA, as everyone said, is rather low. Pulling that up will help you. Doing extremely well on the ACT/SAT can offset and slightly low GPA. Usually it is easier to offset an average ACT/SAT with a high GPA. Your ECs look pretty good though. Good luck!

Long time reader(Parent). 1st time poster since my S is getting ready to apply to UG this fall. I bet this thread is FEATUREd by mistake.

Yeah I haven’t been on CC since years ago when I posted this topic… I have no idea why it is featured, most likely by accident.

I mean 2 years later I can say that I am a rising sophomore in the SBU GW program. I graduated hs with a 3.71 gpa which is in the lower range of most bsmd programs, but it just goest to show that even if you have a lower tier GPA, you still have a shot at getting into a program. These programs don’t seem to have any particular formula to them, and theres a good deal of wildcards and chance involved! I applied to 20+ bsmd programs (yeah i know, crazy), got 3 med interviews, and was accepted into just this sbu/gw.
