Guidance for transfer decision?

Thanks for your replies/suggestion to my postings.

My son is completing his freshman and graduating to sophomore. He maintained good grades/GPA. He is doing Physics/Math double major at UMBC.

He is debating whether to for college transfer or not.

Will he able to get financial aid/scholarship via transfer?

What are the things to look for transfer decisions?

What are the potential best physics schools to look for such options?

Thanks for sharing.

Merit scholarships tend to be less available for transfers. Some private schools may be less generous with need-based financial aid as well.

Why does he want to transfer?

^ #1 is to decide WHY. That helps define what the college search will be like so that he can avoid being in the same situation again. As you said, finances are important, so depending on how high your son’s GPA is, it might not be worth it to apply to certain schools that are known to be stingy with transfer students.

Thanks for your replies. His GPA: is 3.47/4.00, Major GPA: 3.75/4.00.

There are some schools prepare the students to excel in their academics to achieve their dream. Academic leaders act as mentors apart from class room coaching. He want to pursue in Astrophysics.

Financial support/scholarships is also a factor.

I need your insights to learn about other factors to consider for transfer decisions.

His current school offer financial support/scholarships to transfer students not for current students.

Let me know, if you have any questions.

Thanks for guidance.

Thanks for weighing in. I answered your questions. Any insight?

Sorry, it got lost in the notifications.

How much can your family afford per year without loans?

As for transfer decisions, you consider the same things as freshman decisions. Does the school have the major? Is it affordable? Is it in an area your child could see themselves living in after college? (because often colleges -> internships -> jobs).

Does your child dislike UMBC? If so, why?

If not, then are they just applying to see if they can get into a higher quality school?
