well my stats aren't that great but UVA or UMich - ann arbor are my dream schools. I moved schools late into my soph year but my grade didn't suffer and it actually went up. I'm currently a junior attending one of the most competitive public schools in Pennsylvania and just wanted a heads up on what i need to improve for chances at UMich or UVA.

Stats:

GPA - 3.5(F), 3.6(S), 3.8 UW, 4.2W after 1st semester(J), guessing 4.2+ for senior

SAT - taking new ones, practice test i have got the equivalent of high 1300's or low 1400's on old sat's

SATII taking bio and math 1c, projected mid 600's maybe low 700's for math.

courses - I didn't have a great coure selection throughout school and have 2 honor classes this year. But with my current grades my counselor said i should start taking AP classes so for my senior year i'm taking 2 AP classes for math and science, and mostly honors for other major subjects.

EC - Karate 5 years - have couple accomplishments and awards
Lacrosse 4 years for school
Club lacrosse 4 years all year round except spring, which is when i play for school
Asian club 4 years - treasurer of freshmen class
Tutored earth sciences to middle school student
Piano 4 years - from private teacher
independantly learned korean out of school
working at family business for entire high school time

I think i have very weak stats, especially EC's but since UVA and UMich are public would it count as much as it would for private schools? the only thing i have going for me is i my upward trend in grades. I have alot of motivation to do good in school now and i think my grade over time and my course selection for next year will be evidence of that. so what are my chances at UVA or UMich if i do ED for either, and what are some other schools i would fit into? I'm looking for a bio or business major.

You could always try for Johns Hopkins. University of Rochester would be another good choice.

And no matter what a school says, ED will almost always mean a slightly increased chance of acceptance compared to regular. That's just what it is.

thanks for the reply BBD.
I must say that after reading your post, you got my hopes up. I do not know much about U Rochester so i will look into them. I would love to attend JHU for bio but... with my stats i would think it's impossible even if i did ED. Any other schools i should consider for ED, and anybody else with opinion on ED chances to JHU?

well.... ur gpa is kindof low for uva being out of state.. depends on ur sat score. however, if u raise ur gpa and get a decent sat, i think u can get into cornell or something. they have good engineering.

thanks for your reply crichessill. I decided to give up UVA since it does seem i'm on the lower end for stats. some school's i've been looking into ~

Cornell - Big Reach
UMich - Reach
Lehigh - Match/Reach
Penn State Main - Match
UDelaware - Match/Safety

Well I think that's my list for now... So anybody know any other schools i might fit in for Bio or Business and should I even try for JHU? I am also looking into University of Rochester, can anybody tell me more about it and what program they are good at? And i'm still debating which schools i would have a decent chance for ED... thanks
