All I need to do is to get the guidance rec for my schools. But, I'm not sure that I should just send them off to him, or schedule an appointment and discuss it with him. Also, he gets irritated easily and it's so awkward to make him fill in my transcript on 3different platforms!
Any advice?

If you need to schedule an appointment to actually see him (and not just walk in after school or something) you should, because he might get confused if you just send them to him.

Just try to be polite when speaking to him; you probably aren’t the first person in your school applying for prep schools so he should at least know about them.

Well, he already knows I’m doing this because I already asked him to fill out one for exeter, but I don’t know whether to go again for these schools. And my school is so small and such a closed and private community that I doubt anyone ever applied! You should’ve seen the look he gave me the first time! :)

You could probably just schedule an appointment or something and ask him if he would mind doing the others. He really can’t refuse, because it’s his job.

Or, you could always ask the principal if you don’t feel like dealing with him, but only use that as a last resort.

Ok, so I shouldn’t just email him? It’s just that school reopens on jan 6 and one of the schools deadlines is 4 days after that, and he might procrastinate. I can’t wait for this process robe over!

Yes, in that case, you should, because he knows you already. Just make sure he responds with a yes, before you send any more.

I really hate the process, so much dealing with teachers and some just don’t like recs, haha. I sent a rec to a teacher in november and they still haven’t done it, I’m hoping they will do it over vacation. It would be really annoying to wait on January 14th for them to send in recs…

Yeah, and I feel so awkward doing it, because the look the teachers give me is like, ‘what are you even talking about?’. Everybody is born here, lives here, and dies here, and the though of an outside world seems to confuse them! Ok, so I’ll just send both of the 2 recs to him today, and hope for the best! January 15th here I come!

Since the deadline is not far away, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to perhaps have one of your parents follow up with him. One of my daughter’s teachers was very slow in getting her rec done last year, and she was uncomfortable about continually checking with him to confirm it had been done, so I sent him an email, which led to a very enlightening conversation. Apparently, he hadn’t taken the request too seriously, and didn’t really get that she was intent on going away to school, wondered what the reasons were, etc. I think it’s great when kids drive the application process, but the parental support and follow up is also very important. Good luck!

You know, a conversation with the guidance counselor might be a very good idea… If he understands, or is at least aware of , your motivation and reasons to want to go to boarding school, he would probably be able to write a better recommendation.
