Mochi Magazine Your Guide to Beating the ?Freshman 15?

Do something besides go to class and your dorm. And try to avoid drinking too much, haha.

and eating at 2am every weekend.

drink hard liquor and not beer.

hard liquor with no mixers specifically regular pop.

is this the thread for the best way to get bad hangovers? :P

cant you just workout everyday before class?

Hard liquor still has a **** ton of calories. One shot could be 150-200 calories depending on the alcohol content and type of liquor. There are many light beers - if you are in to light beers… - that have fewer calories.

In comparison, a glass of wine has a wide range but typically around 100 calories.

Those mixed drinks are the killers though… People don’t realize they can have almost 1000 calories in a single glass sometimes.

Anyway, the simple solution to avoid calorie counting instead of having fun is to do the hungover morning run. Always a favorite.

^ well, the point was they get you drunk quicker, so you’re not filling up on 5-7 beers to get the same amount of drunkiness.

the best part of college is being on a porch with your bros and poundin’ those stones while listening to music.

Now I’m confused. 1 shot liquor ~= 12oz beer in alcohol content.

IMHO, the key to weight management in college is simply portion control. Students are not going to eat very healthy, balanced meals all the time. People should avoid calorically dense foods because they will add many calories to your daily quota without filling you up. Only eat until you are full…not bloated. A 150 lb 5’10" college age male should eat about ~1700 calories a day to maintain weight, while a 125 lb 5’4" college age female should eat ~1350 calories a day to maintain weight.

Those stats are way off.

This is how many calories you should consume daily:

Men (19-50): 2,550
Women (19-50): 1,940

I’ve always heard that you just add a 0 to how much you want to weigh, and that’s about how many calories you should eat. Like a 125-lb. girl should eat ~1250 calories to maintain her weight… Maybe that’s oversimplified.

You can’t always go by that. You have to also go by height, age, and gender. A 100 pound person should be eating more than 1,000 calories per day.

Hah no this has to be way off - I’m a 110 lb female and I eat about 1500 calories a day, and I have a slender body. By your logic, an adult male much taller and 40 lb heavier than I am would be eating the same amount of calories…

ugh, jeez…
well, youngin’, it does depend on the shot you take - but most sure do. Take a shot of everclear, for instance, yes… it definitely does have a higher alcohol content than a 4-5% alcohol 12oz can of bud.

There are beers that have 20%+ alc. content which can def. screw up a lightweight. I know a few people who got quite tipsy/drunk after drinking a bottle of diesel. You don’t drink everclear for fun and in some states, it’s illegal. People can get drunk faster if they drink hard liquor since you just drink the shot with one try. But when people drink beer, they tend to sip on it unless they bong it or shotgun it. However, you dont see many people bonging/shotgunning it. Three shots of tequila, vodka, whiskey, etc can def. get some people drunk.

yeah, everclear is illegal in my state, but I was just using it as an extreme example.
Those 20% alcohol beers have a way higher calorie count though. I think the worse I ever had was a 10% beer, and it tasted like bitter, bitter peepee :(

No, I’m sorry, but your stats are way off. You cannot generalize like that. A 6’4" male should not eat the same amount of food as a 5’6" male. Even the numbers I posted are generalized. They don’t take in account things like BMR or activity level. Sedentary people need less calories than active people. But your numbers are way off. 1,940 calories is way too much for most women.

My numbers are not way off.

A person on a diet should consume 2,000 calories a day.

You said a 125 pound woman should eat 1,250 calories a day. That is crazy to even think that.
