Haha yay aot2007! And yay for the fact that you just said huzzah, no joke, that is an amazingly onomatopoetical (?) word.

I would bring an updated resume. I'm definitely going to.

any tips on mentioning financial situation? my dad was recently medically retired (unexpectedly) from police work so we're living off of his pension now. i have also been accepted into the honors engineering program at UCI with a full ride plus a stipend as well as paid research every summer that i'm at UCI. i'm interviewing for presidential, and i'm wondering if it's ok to mention these two things to the interviewer in hopes of getting bumped up to a trustee. so do you think it's a good idea to mention it? and if so, any advice on how to bring it up/word it?

Whatever you do, make sure you indicate that USC is your first choice.

I'm not sure you should mention either the financial situation or Irvine, to be honest. That's something you would tell a financial aid officer. But this is a merit scholarship. And it's not really up to you to negotiate whether you get trustees or presidential (particularly based on need) - it's a gift, not a given. Even if you mention it tastefully, it seems like haggling to me. You want to wow the interviewers with your confidence and communication skills and so forth, not your financial situation. And you want to make it painfully clear that USC is on your mind, and mentioning another school, particularly the scholarship package that school is offering you, seems out of place. But I'm not sure.

that's a good point. thanks! i think i'm just gonna be the great interviewee that i am and not mention it.

What do we wear to the interviews exactly for girls?
Do we have to wear dresses or can we wear slacks,
etc? I have no idea!! Can anyone help me?

I'm definitely bringing an updated resume to the interview just in case they ask for it or something-- everytime I update my resume I put the date on it so that I remember what I've done since the last update

Updated resume?

I never submitted a resume in the first place.(?) Are you just talking about the section of the application where you to list ECs and so forth?

i'm with you schitz. i abhor making remumes and mine hasn't changed much. should i really try and sit down to make one? hm.

and i'm a girl, wearing a blazer and skirt. most people seem to say "business attire" means a suit, so i went with that. too bad it's so hard to find them in my tiny size, but apparently other people have the same issues

Now, I must think up questions to ask and extra things to tell...

who's going on thursday? Also, are slacks and a long sleeve dress shirt too formal for the first day?

schitz- the cinema kids had to submit a creative resume, and I have a resume already drawn up for other universities, so it never hurts

makkuroi- it depends on where you live, but ann taylor store are designed for petite working women (although it tends too be a little too conservative for my tastes, but the business attire works well)

yeah, well i really need that scholarship financially, so i don't exactly have a lot of money for ann taylor. so those interviewers will hopefully not look down on me with me clearance-rack-at-sears-slightly-too-big-blazer and my secondhand-store-not-exactly-matching-skirt

and where do i keep resumes if i decide to write and bring one? i cant put it in my pocket... should we be carrying backpacks around or just a binder or what?

i hear it's gonna be raining on thursday and friday :(
The only jacket I wear for rain is a jeans jacket. But I'm afriad it's too informal...

A jeans jacket could look very sharp and business casual over a black top and black skirt or dress pants for a woman!

lol no one is ever going to judge you on looks.

bring a tote or something for your resume.

and an umbrella.

I second the umbrella. Also, remember, this is LA - depending on where you're from, you might either find it really cold or pleasantly chilly :) They're predicting in the 60's and that's probably going to be about right.

So bringing a warm coat is probably a good idea, but keep in mind that your primary goal is to not get too wet. How much rain is a question mark too - it might just drizzle a little bit and make the ground damp, or it might actually drip a few inches.

Besides, being all bundled up and protected while it's 60 degrees outside and drizzling might even show that you're ready to move to southern california! :)

Last year, it was pouring like crazy during Explore USC! I suggest bringing warm + rainproof clothes and an umbrella, just in case :)

are slacks and a dress shirt too formal for the first day?

If this year is anything like last year: On the 1st day, I saw a wide range of clothes, anything from very casual to dress up. The dressed up students were in the minority on that 1st day in my group. I would say for the 1st day just don't look sloppy but casual is OK, and girls should wear comfy shoes because there is a good amount of walking. Save your dress up clothes and fancy shoes for the 2nd day and the interview.

I agree. There is no real need to dress up on the first day. Also, I keep getting surprised by the mentions of resumes. I can't really see the need for them, unless they've been asked for by someone. Your interviewer will literally have your application sitting in front of them. Is there really information that you didn't include in that?

By the way, you might want a change of clothes for after the interview, especially if you want to sit in on a class. I know that I was desperate to get out of my heels, but I didn't have another pair of socks.

Should we ask for business cards at the end of the interview? I keep reading how this should be done for college interviews...

Oh, and I've been browsing some of the interview threads, and I'm wondering just how formal/casual the interviews will be. Formal dress, but what's the atmosphere like?
