Guide to Housing at USC

so…i stayed in irc last year and this year i’ll be staying at century. i’m pretty sure i want to join a fraternity. in irc, you may find a few that also want to do that. in my hall last year, i’m pretty sure only two rushed and joined one.

Oh ok so it really doesn’t matter? Well thats cool so are you rushing in the fall or spring? Yeah i think i am going with century. I hope i make the right decision?

Haha, yeah, I think most of the people who end up rushing are from New/North and Birnkrant :stuck_out_tongue: Just kidding, sorta, lol

But it doesn’t really matter too much where you live if you’re rushing. Though, it may be SLIGHTLY more convenient from Century as IRC is like the furthest point from the Row. Century is at least relatively close. My guess is IRC usually doesn’t have too many people rush and people in Century will most likely already be in fraternities and sororities if they wanted to be in them before. But in terms of Greek life, I’d imagine more people in Century would be involved, just not rushing/pledging. But yeah, I think you’re making the right choice to be at Century, unless you’re an international student yourself, then you MAY want to reconsider IRC. But that’d probably be the only reason I’d think about it again.

Thanks that makes sense and no i am not an international student but i am out of state and i just dont want to be a loner and left out of the university activities and all that. I want to get involved with a fraternity and also with some clubs on campus so i hope century is a good choice.

i’ll be rushing in the fall. are you transferring in as a sophomore or junior?

Hey, you got reassigned? What date did you apply for reassignment?

I am a transferring in as a sophomore, im a little nervous though im a small town guy and im gonna be in the city.

FutureGirl, don’t know who you’re question is directed too. But if it was to me, I applied for reassignment on March 9th.

Oh I’ll be a sophomore too, behold, though I’m not a transfer student. But there are plenty of people from small towns, so you have nothing to worry about.

akalboy

Thanks for the advice i appreciate it. So where are you living? And what is your major?

Well assuming my reassignment went through (which it seems to have, at least according to the housing website), I’ll be living in Troy. If it didn’t, then I’ll be in Cardinal Gardens.

And I’m majoring in Business Administration and Sociology.

akalboy, wow, that was a long time ago! did you get notification by email? if so, what date?

Well, I applied the very first day we were allowed to do so. But if you’re a transfer, I don’t know when you could first turn in reassignment as I’m sure many transfer hadn’t even heard back by then.

But I actually didn’t get a notification, which seems odd to me. I only noticed it because I went onto the housing website (which currently won’t work entirely for me). But yeah, on the main page it says that I’m in a new building, but I can’t click on the “Rooms” tab when I go to the application to see who my roommates are. So yeah, just hoping that the reassignment did really go through, lol.

Sweet, my major is sociology and Public Relations.

Haha nice, guess we might be seeing each other in some sociology classes :P

Awesome, yeah we might. So are you excited for the new year?

Just wondering… are mattress pads really necessary? Does anyone use them or know anyone who does?

I have a few questions regarding getting stuff for the dorm. I will be coming from out of town so will pretty much have to buy most things locally.

Is there a particular area close by which has a Best Buy (TV, Fans) or Costco and a Bed Bath Beyond?

Is there a cheap place to buy a carpet remnant or area rug - the ones i saw at orientation in New/North are disgusting.

Is there a good place to buy some plants for the room?

And I do think mattress pads are a good idea having experienced a night without them at orientation. The mattresses are covered with plastic so are not comfortable without a pad.

I usually go to Target or Walmart if I needed anything since its closer but you will still need a car to get there. I’m sure they have everything you need.
There is a Best Buy and a Bed, Bath and Beyond in West Hollywood if you want to take one trip.

Last year, I used a foam pad and then another mattress pad on top. Most people I know had them.

the first week, usc will offer shuttles to target. just in case you realize you need something.

HEY GUYS!

Does anyone know anything about Honors House (off campus housing for USC)???
