Guide us to decide the list of colleges to apply!

Ds would like to apply colleges in CA to get degree in engineering computers.
since its so impacted what are the chances?
Unweighted GPA: 4.00
Weighted and Capped GPA: 4.32
Cal poly GPA 3.97 unweighted and 4.21 weighted

his senior grades would be available in October for 1st semester. if we apply in first week would not need to enter senior grades. let us see

choice would be first UC Davis
second cal poly slo

please suggest schools to apply and also if out of state choices within same school fees as california resident.

thankyou

Cheaper and good. No test needed. Arizona.

If he has a solid test score, Alabama and FSU. BAMA is dirt cheap and buys in a ton of smart kids. But you need a test score as you do at FSU.

Look at WUE schools like Nevada, etc. even if tuition is a bit more, cost of living likely less.

In state - SDSU, as an example. And nothing wrong with UCSC.

Good luck.

forgot to mention , no test score- schools list.

ucd
ucsc
cal poly slo
sdsu
sjsu
sac state

How does your student have an unweighted 4.0, but an unweighted Cal Poly GPA below 4.0?

Have they been to UCD and CP? They are very different schools. The experience will be different. Why is Davis their #1?

I also agree, don’t discount WUE. Some could be cheaper than in state CA.

cal poly gpa includes 9th grade.
uc davis is local
i heard WUE doesnt apply for engineering computer science
which wue would you suggest

thankyou

Ok. With AZ he’ll get the $32k (down from $35k) merit on GPA alone. Just reading another note…if not 4.0 then a 3.9 is 30k. They count 9th.

So tuition under $10k. Beautiful Honors dorm with dining hall at the bottom and adjacent gym. It’s a steal for a smart kid with no test.

And you never know what you find in WUE.

is it university of Arizona? @tsbna44
thankyou

Yes. ASU not as lucrative. And U of A is nicer campus in my opinion !! I added the 32 wue schools for computer engineering. Well many are in CA so less. Well u may have to populate again Looks like the link doesn’t hold the presets.

Depends on the specific WUE college as to what majors are covered under its 1.5 times in-state tuition offer.

San Diego 75% 35% 5% 1%
Santa Barbara 73% 28% 4% 1%

These are for the whole campus. Different divisions or majors may have different levels selectivity (usually, engineering and computer science majors are more selective).

My son is a ME (BS/MS Cal Poly). His safety WUE schools were Colorado State and Utah. Both have good engineering programs and nice campuses. Many fear the LDS influence in Utah, but SLC is very diverse, and minority Mormon.

I’d also add Cal Poly Pomona. Unfortunately Cal Poly Humboldt doesn’t offer Computer Engineering.

His Cal Poly chances will hinge on his rigor, and ECs. He’ll have a shot though.

Congrats on his accomplishments!

You should also calculate his Uncapped Fully Weighted UC GPA since the UC’s consider the Unweighted, Capped Weighted and Fully Weighted UC GPA. Even if his 1st semester Senior grades are available at time of application, they will not be considered in the UC/CSU application review. They may help for other schools that considers Senior grades.

I would add Cal Poly Pomona and UC Riverside as Match schools. If he is happy to attend Sac state as his safety school, then his list looks fine. All of the schools on his list look within Reach.

The CSU Impaction Matrix could help if he wants another non-impacted campus for Computer Engineering. Chico State perhaps?

Best of luck to him for this admission cycle.
