so i don't know how i got into UCI because i only took the ACT. but now that I'm in I'm kinda torn where i should go to school.

i also got into BYU (yes i know, I'm a crazy Mormon) haha and I'm torn. since my family is blessed to be financially successful money isn't an issue when comparing tuition.

what is an issue is where i should go!! what would you guys do?

I'm pretty intelligent but i don't care much for school. i have a few businesses right now that are actually doing pretty well and i know that i just want to learn more about business to be successful and apply it to my own ventures. the degree is trivial to me.

haha well i mean my parents realized a long time ago and put money away for my school. i am able to go anywhere i would like and they will pay. as long as i give my full effort.

We need a bit more information to offer meaningful advice… for example, are you looking at a Business major at the two universities? Are your current businesses located in Orange County/SoCal or SLC or ??? And how important is it to you that the curriculum integrate Mormon principles (crazy or otherwise )?

Im not mormon and I almost completed an application to BYU…got to the phone interview(past the interview with the stake[I think?] president) and decided against it…ahaha…anyways. Visit both, which one do you like better? They are both good schools and I am sure you couldn’t go wrong. If you want to stay in California it might be valuable to stay here in college.
Since you asked what I would do, personally I would go to UCI.

ya i will be going into business. i’m not entirely sure what area yet but i’m positive on the business major.

the businesses i have now are online. the location from which i run them doesn’t matter, in fact, living in California may make things easier for future businesses.

I live in Utah right now. I am a Mormon, and in June 2010 i will be serving a 2 year mission for my church. it’s not something i have to do, its just a huge opportunity to serve and grow as a person.

BYU offers probably the better atmosphere spiritually, but i know that i will still go on a mission of i attend UCI.

so i guess you could say church is a huge part of my life. going to uci won’t change that, but will i be better off at byu? or uci? gosh i dunno

BusinessWeek ranks BYU’s undergraduate business program (Marriott) in the top 10 nationally. UCI’s undergraduate program is too new to rank, but competition to get in has been tough (so congrats).

Forgive my ignorance, but would you be able to combine your 2-year mission with going to college? I ask because BYU might make it easier to suspend your education for that time. Also, if you’re a Utah resident, UC out-of-state tuition is pretty high. (I know you said money isn’t an issue, but still…)

Frankly, the only advantage I see to UCI is the possibility of building business contacts in SoCal… and, perhaps, a more diverse university population/experience.

Those are the pros and cons that I can see… perhaps the business crowd can weigh in with better advice.

BYU seems to be a better choice to you IMO. As for the political atmosphere of UC Irvine is almost apathetic besides a few small protests here and there meant to “engage discussion”.
