would you guys go to a college where you knew no one but was getting a 10k dollar scholarship (total cost would be about 32k) and 49 credits, or go to a school where you know the layout, have a bunch of friends , but are only getting 40 credits and it costs 42k...

my dad and mom have no problem sending me, but i know it will be an expense for them and i feel terrible. the schools, academically, are similar but i have visited loyola numerous times and i love it there; whereas i do not know the first thing about st joes.

let me know guys, seriously im stressin!

Go where you get the best academic opportunities. What do you want to study/pursue?

finance possibly. im debating finance and psychology. loyola is probably a bit better all around and i would succeed more as i have a good amount of friends and a nice support system there.

Sounds like the main question is the debt you'll incurr.

if you go to the more expensive school, do what you can to offset the cost, such as work study.

go to loyola and be happy.

i liek the way you think. my parents said the same thing, i cant shake the fact that its a lot of money though.

hmm well i'm kinda in the same predicament. I've got the great state school on one hand where I'll spend 20k a year, or the even better private school on the other hand where I'll spend 40k a year. I know I'd have fun at the state school, but I feel like I'd be much happier OOS with new people.

Ultimately, my personal wants in addition to the greater quality of education that I'll get at the private school have made me (and my parents) willing to spend the extra money now.

Don't forget that you're also going to have about 2 years done...so it's not like you're paying 10k more a year for four years...just twoish. Which, for happiness and a better education, isn't that bad of an investment.

yea....

im not sure how much better loyola is in relation to st joes, but thats true, its not THAT much of a difference in the long run

unfortunately, i don't really know either. i will give loyola the upper hand in that i've at least heard of it. never heard of st. joes.

If there is no marked difference between the academics of the two schools, and you're not going to incur any debt by going to either one of them, then go to the one you really want to go to. As for feeling guilty, your parents are adults, and they can spend their money on whatever they want. You're very lucky that in your case what they want to spend their money on is you!

yea thank you, i suppose you are right. someone mentioned in another thread about asking loyola if they can match the 10k that st joes is giving me.

who cares where your friends are?

academics and location come first

if your poor..think about the finance..

academics are the same, as i stated above

well st joes has a selectivity rating of 60, vs loyola's rating of 94

the college experience means meeting people. that is extremely hindered if you already know people where you go becuase you will just stick with them.
