I think there might be some advantage to being closer to home if you plan on going there with any frequency. I really only know Pitt personally though, and can't compare Drexel except by word of mouth. Which is better academically might depend on your intended major.

PS- there is no big advantage to Pitt honors college, so don't feel too bad about that.

I too thought about Drexel but i withdrew my app...first i just wanna say Drexel is dirty....but for real though get away from home and go to pitt...I too am pre-med and it's Pitt hands down because there are mega opportunities for medical interest at pitt...even if u look at stats and rankings in educational quality the writtings on the wall.

premed-PITT
anything medical at Pitt is tops nationally
Also, Pitt is higher much higher ranked than Drexel in just about every field of study
the student body at pitt is intelligent
the city, campus of pitt is great- a great college town, a great college, wonderful opportunities-- Hail Pitt

Pitt is the better option. Pitt is ranked higher than Drexel. It offers so many opportunities.

From what I have heard, Drexel does not have the nicest campus and was a bit of an eyesore. Unless you want to be able to go home quickly, then I would say go to Pitt.

I am kind of in a similar situation, however, I am not going for medicine, I am going to major in IS. I have talked to some friends that go to Drexel, and they say that it isn't really a liberal arts school and that you will probably get an overall better education at Pitt. I still kind of feel like I would get a better IS education at Drexel though. For you, I would go to Pitt because it is so well-ranked in the medical field.

Anyone have any ideas about the IS programs at either of these colleges?

Make a list of pros and cons.
Pitt- highly ranked in medical field
Pitt- campus safer/more desirable than Drexel campus
Pitt- academic studies options- too many to list
Pitt- grad schools, med schools, etc- all highly rated and prestigious
Pitt student body-
Pitt athletics- great sports teams to watch
Pitt spirit- just visit the campus and see everyone wearing Pitt gear
Pitt library- one of the country's best library systems
Drexel has coop which is a great option; however then you are not always on the same wavelength as your peers- you intern while your roommate stays to study, etc- this divides the student body
At Pitt - as a nursing student you have clinicals which gives you experience(like coop)
engineering students often intern, japanese majors study in japan for a year, etc, etc
So, as the coop can be useful - there are other venues for seeking experience
The positive about Pitt is that if you are in the business school and you decide to opt out - there are many many options at Pitt- While Pitt is an academically strong university it is also school that offers social, fun, city, political, choices, groups, clubs, activities-

I have a friend who is an honors student and an IS major. He does not find the classes particularly challenging, and is planning to take classes at CMU (through Pitt) end of soph/start of junior year. He also said that coming in he knew the program wasn't great, but loved the school so much that he decided to come anyway.
