guys, i really need your help..i don't know what to do..

So i got into all my unis except for Columbia and it was down to UVA and i accepted their offer...then i get off the waitlist for UMich and i decide i want to attend there...UVa gave me $25,000 grant and $6000 loan and my dad has to pay like $7000 or so. I got into the best dorm in UVa and i have really good financial aid. As for UMich, i got no Financial Aid info. and i am still to receive my housing contract...im doing Engineering (as a first year) and i really don't know where to go...please enlighten me and sorry for a really long story :(
thank you!

oh, and my bro is at UVa, if that makes a difference (it makes a difference to me, but not a HUGE one, academics come first...)

go to UVa, it seems to be the better choice here - UVA and Mich are pretty much peers in everything, and unless mich is giving you a better fin aid package..

i have no financial aid information for them so far...however, michigan is ranked higher than UVA for engineering....but people say undergrad doesn't really matter.... which confuses me more~! lol

brkr, the ranking factor is negligible and insignificant. UVA too has a renowned Engineering school with stellar faculties. Unless Michigan is giving you better financial aid offer, I'd suggest you go to UVA.

UVa seems like the obvious choice...

another one for uva.. its the obvious choice. no finaid vs a lot of finaid. and michigan and uva are peers. You can try to transfer to umich after one year when you can get a decent financial aid package. For now though call michigan's finanicial aid office, ask about a possibility to get some money, then if they don't offer any grants or loans go to uva.

This is easy..go to UVA.

ya, thts what i was thinking...but, isn't Michigan's Undergraduate Engineering Program significantly better than UVa's?

not 25000$ more significant.

according to

university of michigan is 7th and UVA is 33rd. You may think this is a total gap between engineering programs, but honestly, look at Harvard and UPenn. They're only a few places above UVA. why is that? Its because these colleges don't emphasize the engineering field as much as UM and the top engineering schools. Basically, these colleges don't contribute "as much" to the engineering field as the others do. It does not mean that the engineering there sucks. In addition, do not look to strongly on ranking.

The focus and direction towards engineering in UVA may be a little off, but don't worry. If you really don't like UVA, you can always transfer to michigan. It may take two years to finish all the prerequisites though

I'm assuming you're not a millionaire because you got financial aid from UVA, but think about how well off you are and if your parents can afford UMich. This, of course, should be best discussed with your parents than anyone else.
Also, is the only reason you have a strong preference for Umich because of the engineering rankings? Especially in this kind of decision, you really should also judge by fit and not just the rankings. You don't want to pay $25K extra to go to a school with a good engineering program, but a campus you hate.

Ah, I'd go to UVA.

well, my parents can afford my first your tuition without financial aid from savings and stuff...also cause my brother also got good financial aid from UVa, my father doesn't really mind paying extra if i want to go to UMich. I visited UVa in the summer (my bro was taking a summer course there) and UVa is absolutely beautiful. But, my friends also visited the UMich campus and they said the same...so obviously both campuses are good...im only in doubt cause of rankings and sorta money cause i don't wanna put tht kind of pressure on my dad (even though he has no obligation and said it was up to me)...

I would say if at all possible, and financially viable, visit UMich. No two campuses are alike, and from what I'm hear, although both are beautiful, UMich and UVa's campuses are two different environments.

I don't think I can tell you which one to pick, and other people have obviously stated their opinions so I don't need to restate any opinions, but that's just what I suggest doing.
