Guys-what are your favorite polo brands?

congratulations, you're all branded, walking cattle in a slaughterhouse, just following what everyone else does so you are easily manipulated by the brands. Conformity makes me sick.

Haha, good luck Emerson.

Pop the collar? :P

i856, nice to know that you wear profanity and fruit as clothes, for future reference shirt has an "r" between the "i" and the "t" and you are probably looking for a "pair" of pants.

Back to the subject at hand...please do not pop your collars and yes J. Crew is a well received and very acceptable brand (although tilted hats are a serious error). Also as I stated earlier if you want to wear a polo don't wear one from any store in the mall that starts with an "A" OR ends in "ollister." Once again RL, Lacoste, Brooks, Vineyard Vines are the best options. You don't have to spend a fortune to wear these brands either. Sales and factory stores make everything a lot easier (You can get RL polos for $35 from their website right now with an online coupon).

It seems to me that those brands market to an older demographic, certainly not primarily to the rising college freshman. Most importantly, their polos don't seem to have that young vintage fit that phobos was mentioning. If you can show me otherwise though, that would be great.

I saw several Volcom polos once in an Archies and I liked the style, even if it was a bit too "scene" for me. "Prep" is probably the safe way to go at an Ivy League though :(

im with you! i got 3 polos for $20 at champs!

BigBrother, from your other posts I'm assuming that you will be a freshman at dartmouth and are in to what you think is preppy dress. AE, A&F, etc. are not truly preppy brands, you should consider the brands I suggested, if you are looking for a more slim fit polo try the custom fit options from brooks or polo. http://www.ralphlauren.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2592875&cp=1760788.2289753.1766317&ab=ln_sale_categories_poloshirtsale&SMR=1&parentPage=family try these. You may not beleive me but I guaruntee you dartmouth students (for the most part) will not be wearing American Eagle. It's a little over the top but it's been mentioned earlier in this thread check out the style guide at frattinghard.com

3 for $20 at Champs or Foot Locker.

i usually just wear $10 t-shirts... some Vans, some just graphic
i do have a few polos, Arizona and some other brand. i dont really care, i like the color/design, it was cheap, so i got it. i dont care what people might think, hell, i like it

Heh...I will indulge the shallow undertone of this thread...

Favorites: Polo Ralph Lauren, Lacoste, Charles Tyrwhitt, Burberry
Occasional: Brooks Brothers (a bit old fashioned but the same can be said for Tyrwhitt)

I stay away, and I honestly believe you should to:
- American Eagle, Ambercrombie & Fitch, Hollister

for the most part, ralph lauren custum fit, lacoste, and brooks brothers slim fit. also have a few vineyard vines polos, but they seem to have a larger cut to them.

i hate to sound like a fashion noob but whats the stigma surrounding AE, A&F, and Hollister? clothes for high school people? for "prep" posers? why such a need to avoid? i havent gone shopping for clothes for college yet but have some A&F shirts and polos. i dont care b/c i was planning on shopping at gap and jcrew but just wondering why the dislike?

never thought my big 500 would be about fashion...go figure

ae, a&f and the like are all fake preppy brands. they're more so "fashonable"(even if they aren't) then preppy.

sort of a new vs. old money thing.

and that's probably the exact reason why you shouldn't go "prep." IMO, why bother looking like everyone else because it's safe? take a bit of a chance...college is your chance to show who you are, not a sheltered version of what you want to be. you can still look great and unique without sticking out.

as "shallow" as that might seem and however hard you try to say that fashion doesn't matter, it does affect the way that others (generally strangers and acquaintances) see you. i'm not saying that everyone should be looking for x or y brand and spend lots on clothes, but putting just a little thought into what you wear (and yes, what brands you buy) goes a long way into saying who you are to people around you.

I honestly think that 95% of the people who complain about people who try to be trendy thinks its trendy to complain about trendiness.

if you dont like this thread, you dont have to post.

I will still rock A&F and I don't care. Chicks dig it on guys and the clothes look good.

burberry is great but you must get a slim cut. the original cut is super wide.

In order of preference

Polo
Original Penguin
Le Tigre
Lacoste (gradually dropping b/c GDI's are picking up on it)
J.Crew (esp their vintage styles)
Express
BR
Gap <----distant last

Looking to pick up some Vinyard Vines, but obviously there are no stores anywhere near the midwest, and I'm a little hesitant about trying a new brand through the mail when I've never been able to try any of their stuff on.

AE ftw. They're cheap and the stuff looks good.

Ralph Lauren
ae
A&F
Hollister
