I’d be pretty happy, but this would never happen for me in real life. I guess I just have to blame mom and dad for giving me short genetics.

No matter what the girl looks like, you have to offer the same compliment to her. When an ugly girl says it, our natural reaction is “lol thanks…” but you really should say the same back to her, even if it means you have to lie. Don’t make it a come-on, just a courtesy. Saying “haha thanks so are you” will not make her think you’re interested in her.

^However, if she’s Polish, no response is needed.

I get it all the time, just smile and crack a joke after. After…if she looks good…escalate…:D

I disagree with saman42, if you don’t think she’s attractive, just compliment her on the gesture - “haha thanks, that’s so nice”. And then you change topics. It’s gonna be awkward no matter what though.

guys, it’ld be sort of mean to go on awks on a girl if she’s not attractive to you, don’t ya think?

^ Then how do you suggest one would respond?

hahahaha this is so funny to me. I dunno. said guy finds me attractive according to my friends, but I imagine it would still be pretty awkward.

no, no, “cute” is not really what I call guys I’m attracted to… more like someone I’d like to be my gay best friend. it only might be if the girl has already been flirting with you for a while.

!@$%

tenchar

“no, no, “cute” is not really what I call guys I’m attracted to… more like someone I’d like to be my gay best friend.”

This is just hilarious! You’re great.

So, I asked a very dear friend of mine. Results, gentlemen!

"Uh, it depends. Sort of the difference between “Aww, you’re so cute!” and “Yeah, you’re pretty cute.” Because sometimes hot’s all Robert Downey Jr, handsome’s wearing a suit, and cute’s just an attractive guy chilling in a t-shirt.

Wait, why?"

Definitely didn’t answer her question.

By the way, people–always, always find something to genuinely compliment back with, if at all possible! Or at least accept it graciously. Might as well try and make everyone’s day a little better, am I right?

ok, here’s how it is where i live.

generally when a girl says a guy is hot, she wants something. either a relationship or a hookup etc etc. when a girl says a guy is cute, she wants to be his friend. or let him be her gay best friend. or her perfect little brother. guys often respond in kind, @hot, if she’s their type they’ll go with it. if not, change of subject. @cute, inside their heads they’ll think either “damnit” or say “thanks?” with a question mark at the end.

hahahah thanks PieceofToast! I love toast so I automatically love your nickname… and you by association? hahahah I never was good at that transitive property…

thanks presque! I think that’s pretty similar to what girls would do too. maybe this guy stuff isn’t as hard as I’ve been thinking it is!

Definitely agree with PieceofToast about the context in which “cute” is used, but I normally use it to describe puppies. And the guys that are attractive but I would never ever date. Attractive is the word I use in place of stupid words like “hot,” but it means the same thing coming from me.

I feel like I killed this thread.

To be honest, you should take her words with a grain of salt. She’s most likely going through a phase as she sees you as an empowering male. I promise, all she’ll do is break your heart within a couple of weeks as she will find someone who’s more empowering than you because he’s arrogant. I know from several experiences…

Davinci, if this was to me (the OP) I’m actually female… I don’t want to break his heart! I’m sorry you went through that, though :(

Oh well. I didn’t know. I’m sorry. But seriously, if you like a guy, go ask him out, men have a higher need to be with a partner than women. But remember to take all precautions when you’re around him. And GL, I wish the best of luck for both of you!!

I suggest this approach:

</wiggle>

that would work SOOOOOO well. gets me EVERY SINGLE TIME

hahahahaha

By the way, if a girl drunk-dials you and says various things, “you’re pretty cute” being among them, it can be a pretty good sign that she likes you. So don’t always rule out girls who pull out the “cute” thing.
