GW Aid Questions

Hi all,
My first post on CC, but, safe to say, I've been browsing on here since last fall. Great site, great people (for the most part) ;)

Anyways, was accepted to GW. Really want to go, but aid is going to be a big (if not the biggest) factor in my decision. (Being the eldest of 8 kids, money isn't particularly expendable). I already received a Presidential Scholarship, but need-based has to make up the rest. I sent the FAFSA in on time, but forgot--stupid me--to send the CSS PROFILE until this past week.

My main question: Will this late filing have any bearing on my aid package? GW's Financial Aid office said "aid won't run out," but will I get less that I would have if I had filed "on time?" Hopefully someone has had this experience before, or has some inkling as to the answer.

Second question: Having a pretty low EFC, how much aid can I expect from GW? I know this is kinda a shot in the dark, but I wanted to get a rough idea of what others in a similar position have been getting (even heard some got 100% met...).

Thanks guys.

Hey man, all I can say is ME TOO.

I had gotten a message saying my application wasn’t complete so my only option was my state university. They don’t require the CSS Profile, so I never made one. Then - bam! - a couple of days ago I got this *****in’ package and realized I was admitted. Exciting, but then I realized my grievous error.

So I am in the same boat as you, but I know no more info. Did you contact the financial aid office and tell about your situation and that’s how you got that response? If so, that’s way cool of them. I think other universities would probably just say “too bad, so sad.”

Anyway, good luck my friend. Because if there’s hope for you there is hope for me!

I’m surprised that the GW Fin. Aid office didn’t contact you shortly after deadline to request your Profile info. I understand that there often isn’t much ‘hand-holding’ in college, but still – even a quick email reminder would have been a big help.

I would recommend calling the FA office ASAP. Good luck!

I suppose that would have been nice (I would have really appreciated it). But the only reason I even know I was admitted was because of the package in the mail; I never received the admissions e-mail say I was accepted. If the mail had lost my package or something I never would have known!

Question for you, though: have you turned in the Federal Dependent Verification Worksheet? I know it is not required for everyone (and I’ve had to do it with my MSU application), but if it was required for you, did you just send it in?

I e-mailed the office, they were pretty cordial. So fingers are crossed; I hate that I’ve got my hopes up now!

Good luck to you, too!
