My essays and recommendations were superb as well. I'm still really sad...

Harding292 : Chin up. There's still RD, remember that...
Also, they now know that you really like the school, and interest is a key factor in RD decisions, so you still have a good chance.

Don't despair. Even if you don't get into GW, you have good stats and I'm sure you can get into other very good schools.

Don't worry, man.

Remember that everything happens for a reason. This may be a blessing in desguise, you know.

Congrats to everyone, especially newfoundgirlie.

To apply Regular Decision, do I need to send in teacher recs, etc all in again? I should probably look at other schools for poli sci and int'l relations though. Or try an appeal. I am still devastated as GW has been my #1 choice for so long and I just pictured myself being there.

Thanks again!

edit: To those that applied, did you do the interview that was optional?

Harding292 - Don't lose hope. If you were deferred then your application will automatically be put into to RD batch, so you don't need to re-apply (you may want to call the office on Monday just to confirm, but I'm 99.9% sure that's the case).

If you have been deferred, you might also want to really get those first semester grades way up, because if they see you've really made an effort, they will be more likely to accept you. Also, try sending them any new information or showing as much interest as possible in the school. Maybe write an extra essay (but if you do, keep it short and make sure it will really add something signficant to your application).
I don't know if this next solution is even a possibility, but you could try to get your GC to call GW to see if they know if there was a specific reason you weren't accepted. If it was, for example, your grades, then if they see a great first semester, they will see you really worked hard on the one area that was lacking first time round.

Good luck!

In answer to your question, yes I did have an interview. I think it went really well. And even if it hadn't, interviewers rarely write bad letters (what would be the point of doing so? You made the effort to meet them and take time, and so did they, they won't write anything negative, unless you show up an hour late or drunk).
If you haven't interviewed, be sure to do so.

i interviewed it was a lot of fun...then again i like being in front of people. its really not a big deal they try to make you feel comfortable. the guy i interviewed with and i ended up bsing about horror stories of west texas weather haha...

i got in! =)

SATs:

Did an interview

Got in CAS!!! I was originally going to apply to Elliot but I wasnt sure enough about wanting to study international relations.

Oh yeah, we should post our stats right?

SAT :

CR: 710
W: 690
M: 580 (eww, much?)

GPA : ~3.8
Top 25%
International but US citizen

Thanks for giving me a glimmer of hope newfoundgirlie. I was denied though. Not deferred. :(

GWU was by far my first choice and I can't imagine going anywhere else. I guess I will try to appeal or apply RD...

Would it be possible if I called GW that they would tell me why I didn't get in (SATs too low, etc)?

Of course, there may be another reason that I didn't get in, but that means I was totally screwed over by someone (I'll PM someone it if they are curious). I'm probably just paranoid.

Congrats everyone!

congrats to everyone who got in!

i'm RD for the accelerated medical program, so i have to wait :(.

Harding292 : PM me. What do you mean screwed over by someone?

Call GWU, or get your GC to do so, and ask why you were denied. Also, ask if you are allowed to re apply RD. If so, really really REALLY work on your GPA and maybe try taking the SAT in Jan and really working your butt off for it. And if you continue showing interest, you never know...

There are other great schools if you really want to be in the DC area though. American U is a really good school and a bit easier to get into. George Mason is in Fairfax, Virginia and I'm sure you'd get in there. Also look at U of Maryland-College Park - great school.

Just keep your options open. Lots of other schools offer similar qualities that GWU does.
