I am really interested in GW because I love the campus and I love DC. I am hoping for strong financial aid, but I was wondering what the engineering programs are like there. I have read a few posts here talking about it in a less than positive light but those also came out 5+ years ago, so I was wondering if it has improved. I know they recently finished or are just now finishing a new science and engineering building which I guess is a good sign that they are working to improve their engineering program, but I am still a bit concerned about it. I am really interested in GW, but I want to go somewhere with a strong engineering program. Any and all input would be awesome!
GW Engineering has flown under the radar in the past but with the new SEH it’s becoming more well known. The school is very small compared to the other schools in GW. My son is a BME and loves it and is on par with what he is learning with friends from other engineering schools. It’s ABET accredited so the program must follow those standards. If you’re interested, make sure you attend the Engineering open house. It was after this event that my son decided GW was his first choice. Freshman year, the engineers had a floor in Thurston so most of them lived together which was great for homework & studying.
Thank you for your input. I am still a bit concerned about the engineering opportunities (for internships, research, careers, etc.) as compared to other places. I have also been accepted to Georgia Tech, and while I feel like I would like GW’s campus and environment better, there is no denying Georgia Tech would have more opportunities for engineering specifically. I believe you when you say that GW’s engineering program is on par with other universities, but I am still a bit concerned about opportunities for engineering there. Any input?
