But which is better academically and socially?

Since you are not sure of your major, you might want to go to the college that offers the widest variety of options. Look at the lists of majors for each choice. As far as which is the best academically, that would depend upon your chosen major. If you just look at rankings, that does not tell you too much. GW and UD are grouped in the top national universities, being #54 and #71 respectively. Gettysburg is #48 in the top liberal arts colleges group. Villanova is #1 in the top northern masters universities. In any case, if you apply yourself, you will get a good academic experience at all 4 colleges.

As far as the social aspects, I can quote you some rankings from Princeton Review:

GW: #3 great college town, #3 dorms like palaces, #1 politically active
UD: #19 dissatisfied with financial aid
Villanova: #14 best career/job placement, #20 best quality of life, #17 jock school
Gettysburg: #18 best fraternities/sororities

But I think it does not matter what anybody else thinks. If you are having such a hard time deciding, you will probably be happy at all of these colleges. You will learn, make friends and enjoy your experience.

Where does your son go?

He is a freshman at UD.
