I was accepted to the honors program and received 20k per year at gw. i plan on majoring in economics and political science. if i go to hopkins i wont receive much money so im deciding if its really worth it to go to hopkins.. is hopkins that much better than gw because i know hopkins is ranked much higher than gw....
any thoughts????

ranking higher doesn’t mean is better. Because our professors have a “main job” many times, and those jobs include White House affairs, Lobbying or being a CEO of CBS radio for example, etc…, GWU has been placed lower in the rankings than what the school deserves, because the professors are not full time.

I chose GU over Hopkins myself. i am interested in foreign service with a particular interest in the Middle East. It became clear pretty quickly that GU would offer me more opportunities in internships and daily international exposure than Hopkins could. Plus after visiting the Hopkins campus, GU was more appealing. I didn’t feel like the students have much of a life at Hopkins, usually in the library, all academics, no social life. Lastly, DC had so much culture to offer, Baltimore is limited. I think I’d get bored at Hopkins, but GU would keep me busy forever. Lastly, you need connections, and although Hopkins has a good name, GU has the connected professors and usually it’s “not what you know, it’s WHO you know.”

P.S. Sorry about the two “lastlys” Ha!

wavweswatcher: it’s GWU, not GU (Georgetown University), lol!

OMG!!! What an error, soooooo sorry! GW!

I strongly recommend that you choose GWU over Johns Hopkins. The students from my D’s class who attend Johns Hopkins are not happy there. The environment is too intense and the neighborhood in Baltimore is dangerous. This does not make for a happy college experience.
