[/ul][ b]Reflection**[ul]
[] Strengths: Essays, SAT, recs

[] Why you think you were waitlisted: Not enough interest shown/lack of interview
[li] Where else were you accepted: Northeastern, Babson, Bentley, American, University of South Carolina, Elon, Drexel, UMD College Park[/li][/ul]General Comments: I’m a little disappointed but I place the blame on myself so it’s okay. Most people would be happy with my current acceptances so it’s all good. I accept my failure and their decision and will eventually be happy wherever I go. I have to say though, in between my rejections and one other waitlist, this one really got to me. Everything else I brushed off easily. Oh well! Congratulations to everyone who got in! I have to stop being a downer ( : since I also found out about my American acceptance today

Decision: Accepted

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): Reading 690 Math 640 Writing 710 (total 2040, not superscored)
[] ACT: n/a
[] SAT II: Literature 690 US History 740

[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.):
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]

[] Volunteer/Community service: Over 150+ hours of community service that include tutoring kids in a below poverty line elementary school, teaching art classes at a local rec center, volunteering at an elderly home, etc.
[] Summer Activities: Attended the NYU Precollege Program and received 2 A’s (4.0 College GPA)
[] Essays: Considered well written by multiple teachers and counselors… my GWU supplement was (in my opinion) kind of sloppy and showed that I was applying last minute
[] Teacher Recommendation: Both from AP teachers, my AP English teacher has loved me since freshman year so I predict it was pretty good
[] Counselor Rec: She wrote one…? At my school we aren’t allowed to see the recommendation letters.
[] Additional Rec: n/a
[] Interview: I didn’t do one… (I was 99% sure I would get into the school I applied ED to at the time)
[/ul]Other[ul]
[li] Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes, I received a $20,000 trustees scholarship[/li][] Intended Major: English
[] State (if domestic applicant): California

[] Gender: Female
[] Income Bracket: Above $150,000

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[li] Strengths: Writing skill, consistently working throughout high school (& with a really unique job at that), I’ve pursued academic opportunities outside of my high school[/li][] Weaknesses:GPA could be higher, SAT scores definitely (should have taken the SAT I twice & taken SAT 2 Literature again)
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I honestly don’t know… I didn’t interview (which I was worried would hurt me) or show any interest. In the end it was probably because my stats fit into the average and my essay was unique. Also, I applied to NYU as a journalism major but realized how hard it was to get into schools as an impacted major so I switched to English (which I now want to pursue).
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
Rejected from NYU (ED), accepted to Northeastern, waiting for 13 more schools still…
[/ul]General Comments:
Waiting for all my reach school decisions but will definitely be attending a welcome day at GWU next month! I love DC and would be thrilled to attend this fall.

[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): none
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): book club (3 years), russian club (4 years), classics club (1 year), math team (1 year).
[] Job/Work Experience: None when I applied.
[] Volunteer/Community service: Volunteered at a camp for kids with special needs the summer before junior year. Tutored math and Russian for a year.
[] Summer Activities: The aforementioned camp and two classes at community college the summer before senior year (Macroeconomics and Sociology).
[] Essays: They were good, but probably not great. I’m a strong writer, but not really fabulous by any means. I really harped on my Russian heritage and the importance of a multinational community and a multidisciplinary education in my “Why GW” essay.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Both of the teachers I asked have known me for years (3 and 6), and I’m fairly close with them. I assume they were nice. Notably, they both teach in the same department, and I was definitely warned against asking both of them. It really felt right for them to be the ones to write my recs, though, so I went ahead with asking them anyway.
[] Counselor Rec: My high school is huge and I don’t really know my guidance counselor, so I’m not sure. I’m sure it was good, but it couldn’t be really personal.
[] Additional Rec: none!
[] Interview: I didn’t have one.

[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None, really. My family speaks Russian at home and my mom didn’t finish college (my dad went through grad school), but those don’t really count.
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: scores, probably recommendations as well.
[] What you tried to focus on in your application - any hooks you tried to make for yourself: I tried to really emphasize the impact my Russian heritage has had on my life, as well as the tutoring I did and how much I enjoy teaching.
[] Weaknesses: My grades. I had almost all B’s junior year and one C+ (pre-calc). Very happy things turned out well, though! I also never once visited campus or attended a GW admissions event, so I definitely didn’t show the interest I should have.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Not entirely sure haha. I think my love of foreign languages really came through (most of my activities and awards had to do with those…). Perhaps that love made the committee look upon me more favorably? Not sure.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted to Fordham, Northeastern, UMass, UConn, American. Waitlisted at Smith. Rejected from UNC:CH. Waiting on BU.
[/ul]General Comments: I’m just really shocked and excited right now
