GW vs. BU

I am having a tough time choosing between GW's Elliott school and BU's College of Arts and Sciences. I want to major in international relations or economics but I would also really like some good courses in the liberal arts--psych, humanities, soc, lit, etc. Any thoughts?

p.s. I'm from NH, so BU's closeness to home is a definite pro....but Washington D.C. is such a huge draw as well....!

im looking between boston college and GW...so im in the same predicament.

It really depends what you are looking for. As a student of International Affairs I could not see myself going anywhere else. I am four blocks from the White House and two blocks from the IMF and World Bank not to mention how close I am to the State Department. GW's location offers priceless opportunity to gain experiance in International Relations through internships while studying at GW. As far as economics goes, I am going to a CATO event on trade regulation in a couple weeks for one of my classes.

In short, GW is a great school but you really come here for the feel of the campus and the opportunities provided by Washington DC. If you want comforrt BU might be the school for you but if you are looking to experience something new and exciting then I would suggest going to GW and taking full advantage of all that DC has to offer.

if attending the elliott school, can you still take classes in the college of arts and sciences?

GW is one only a handful of universities that dedicates a seperate school for the study of IA at the undergrad level. It's also the closest one to the State Department.

You can take classes in both schools. The IA major consists of both GCRs and major requirments from CCAS departments like Poli Sci, History, Geography, Anthropology, and the language departments to name a few. It's a very interdisciplinary major making it easy to double-major, minor, etc.

What does GCrs stand for? And can you be a little bit more expicit GWCurrentStudent? I have been offered a place to the CCAS... Like I wrote in another thread, I wish to have classes in IR... Is it possible to major in IR while being in CCAS? And if not, how difficult is it to transfer from CCAS to the elliot school. Thank you for your answer, you are being extremely helpfull.

GCRs stand for general curriculum requirements. What we at GW call gen eds. If you're admitted to CCAS, I would advise you to complete the ESIA GCRs while you're in CCAS. Classes that are required to complete ESIA majors are not restricted for ESIA students. Courses that make up the program are different departments (poli sci, econ, history, geography, anthropology, public health, languages, etc).

It may seem complicated, but it's pretty simple.

ok so I have another question but I didn't want to start a whole new thread...are dorm assignments at GW first-come first-serve? I haven't decided where I'm going to school yet, but I don't really want to end up at the Mt. Vernon campus.

thanks

the early decision 1 and early decision 2 kids get first priority, then it is first come first serve for the regular decision kids. I dont want to be on the Mt. Vernon campus either...
