GW vs. Wisconsin

Given the choice between GW and Wisconsin-Madison, which school do you think is superior in terms or reputation, academics, and overall fun? Where would you rather go? I am just looking for some insight, beyond what I know already. I am interested in the business schools at both universities.

Thanks alot

Wisconsin for all answers. Unless you want to intern in congress, I wouldnt go to GW. You cannot argue that GW is better than Wisconsin in anything except poly sci, but there are strong cases that Wisconsin is better than GW in lots of stuff. Finally Wisconsin is like 30-35 thousand out of state (big steal in state). GW is like 48 thousand for everyone. You want to go into business. People say your undergrad school doesnt matter much if you want to do more school (MBA) so do a cost analysis. 35 thousand for Wisconsin and 50 thousand for GW. Pick.

The money thing really isn't really an issue right now.

I'd go to Wisconsin, personally... but going to school in DC should help you to make some business connections in that area, if you're interested in staying there.

UWisconsin, hands down.

I'd go with UWisconsin
.

The only advantage GWU has on Wisconsin is being in DC. Even then, Madison, WI is an amazing college town, is a STATE CAPITAL which is very accessable to students. And by that, I mean I have walked from my poli sci courses down the street (10 minutes) to my internship. You get a great civic expierence. Wisconsin has a higher ranked political science department, superior reputation, social life, athletics, and the list goes on...and on....

bumppppppppppp

gw def
but i'll say wisconsin because i don't want you taking my space at gw! hihi

For Business I think they are about equal. The location for GW might be a bit better and I personally prefer D.C.'s social life way more. At night time D.C.'s entire streets basically turn into a whole club zone with almost every restaurant turning into a party spot. I know this because my mom owns one of these such restaurants and it is PACKED with American, GW, and Georgetown kids on the weekends.

If money is SERIOUSLY not an issue I'd go with GW for the connections and location.

State Street > The pretentious DC crowd.

Wisconsin is far superior for business. #13 in the nation according to US News. Produces the top number of Fortune 500 CEOs in the country...tied with Harvard.

Also Wisconsin is 80K cheaper over 4 years out of state.

"Far superior" is quite misguided.

Look at Wisconsin's size.

Op said money isn't an issue.

No it isn't. Go do your research. Wisconsin consistantly flirts with being a top 10 undergraduate business school. It is my understanding that GWU is not ranked within the top 25.

It still does better than large peer institutions in CEO Fortune 500 production that are all better schools than GW: Texas, UCLA, Cal, Michigan, Illinois, etc.

So? Keeping an extra 50K+ to buy a sweet car and apartment while attending a better school (UW) is a good idea.

The ranking doesn't mean much after the top 10. Georgetown and Cornell are examples. Do you really think Purdue job opps are better than a degree from Georgetown?

CEO's are a poor choice of standards because there are many lurking factors. Shall we rank schools based on most Presidents produced because then William and Mary > a lot of schools ranked higher than it and Uchicago/Caltech/MIT etc. would probably come in last.

Yea but I'm not the op.

thanks...yeah, the money isn't really an issue...anyone else want to throw in their $.02?

Lets compare their business schools then :)

Median starting salary of UW - 43,500
Median starting salary of GW - 42,750

Take your pick.

http://bwnt.businessweek.com/bschools/undergraduate/06rankings/index.asp?sortCol=median_starting_salary&sortOrder=DESC&pageNum=1&resultNum=100

I'd MUCH rather go to Wisconsin. It has everything a person could want; academics, gorgeous location, great sports, great school spirit, etc., etc.

I'm just going to group the first two statements. Essentially you throw out any substancial way to compare to the two. All the while, you give literally not a single reason why GWU has a solid business program. Under your standards, the traditional business powerhouses in the midwest (Michigan, Indiana, etc) have nothing to use when comparing themselves to someone looking at GWU.

Wisconsin's business school at the UG level is consistantly ranked across the board above GWU, it has recruiters from all around the country, and is a much more well known school. There's little comparison.

clearly based on RETURN ON INVESTMENT --- GW will never be worth the money. Wisconsin is the clear winner in this case.

I would also recommend Wisconsin. To me, it would be a no brainer.
