Hi all! I just found out I was accepted to the GWU College of Arts and Sciences for Fall 2007!! I am so stoked but I am not quite sure if I'm going yet.. definitely need to see the financial aid they give me and I'm still anxiously waiting on Georgetown. I'm so excited that theres a good possibility I'll be in DC next year!

Congrats. Did you find out online or did you get it in the mail?

Congrats! I'm @ GWU now :)

I just got the big package in the mail. Funny thing is, I checked online today and it still said "under review"... tricky

Hey pinkdillo, congrats! I was accepted as a transfer too, except for the b-school. The news really came out of nowhere for me cause I also checked online and it said the same thing, "under review". But then my parents gave me a phone call saying they received a big envelope from GW and I knew I got in then. I'm also still waiting for financial aid cause I'm probably not going w/o it.

I called the financial aid office today and they told me that they had been waiting on the admissions committee decision before they started reviewing me for financial aid... so now they said it will take up to 2 weeks until they notify me. Uggghhh I wanted to know sooner!

I was accepted to gw and did not apply for financial aid...

My question is though:

The site states that those who do not originally get scholarships can reapply for scholarships if they have above a 3.7 after two semesters of work, now does this apply to transfer students...if this post just seems absurd, just call it absurd and ill understand

when was the app for GWU that you guys already know you're in?

For those transfers that found out...when did you have your app in?

a month before

I applied for the Spring term but was deferred to Fall 07 because I'm a freshman.

So GW is doing rolling admissions? I applied mid March and havn't heard anything.

Well, originally GW said they'd start releasing decisions on May 1st, so I'm sure they'll send out yours by then. Good luck & hang in there.

sorta kinda unrelated question (open to anyone):

not to sound like an essay question or anything, haha...but why do you want to transfer to GW? i'm transferring out of GW for fall '07, and was just curious as to what people like about the school. totally not trying to rip on GW or anything! just harmless wondering...

and if you guys have any questions about anything having to do with life at GW, i can try to answer them (i'll try to keep my bias out of it :) )

the better question is why are you leaving?

(for me, DC is a big part of it)

I guess GWU just didn't work for you? DC is the biggest part for me, I've been up about 4 times this year (friend goes to the Naval Academy in Annapolis) and every time I love the city more! I'm so excited about all of the possible internships I could have, since I want to work for the State Dept. or another part of the government.

see...thats why i came to gw, and why i'm leaving. the school hides its shortcomings behind its amazing location. if you're REALLY going to take advantage of the city--i mean working in the government, at an NGO, think tank, etc etc.--then maybe it's worth it.

i think that the school is poorly run, and that almost everything about it is mediocre, save its location and its facilities. but then again, it's what you make of it, and different people have different priorities. mine are to be academically challenged, to receive personal attention from faculty, and to experience a sense of community--i found these to be lacking at GW.

I like GW because of their Chemistry program, and the fact that they are closely associated with a medical school where I hope to be one day doesn't hurt.
The research and internships within the D.C metro area are really attractive, and the fact that they are ranked up in the top 50 adds to the prestige of the school. All of these reasons along with the fact that I am going to go to school in that area no matter what, play into my decision.

Rok what specifically about the school is poorly run? Was there any part of the school you specifically found to be unchallenging? Lastly what college are you enrolled in?

red tape everywhere! for example, i had a death in the family last semester and had to miss a test to attend a memorial service...gw INSISTS on getting proof that you actually were mourning...and because the relative didn't have an obituary or a funeral, they wanted a copy of the death certificate(!!!!). i mean...come on. thats sick. every time i have had to deal with the administration, it has proved to be extremely insensitive to the individual student's experience.

another thing i really don't like is that a few of my teachers hold office hours for less than an hour a week. and these are big classes! no good.

hmm...in terms of things being unchallenging, essay-writing here is a joke. papers that would have gotten me Cs in high school are now getting me As. i mean, i don't mind getting good grades...but i feel like if my parents are paying $50G/yr for me to attend GW, i might as well be getting something out of it.

i'm enrolled in CCAS

rokiracoo-was it "GW" that insisted on funeral proof or was it your professor? My D at GW has had a very different experience from yours. She has found all the courses challenging so far even though she was at the top quarter of the applicant pool SAT-wise. She had a very demanding prof for her University Writing course. She came in with lots of APs so she did avoid a lot of the larger introductory courses. She has always been able to e-mail profs and set up appointments if their office hours were at an inconvenient time for her.
