GWU Acceptance!

it was GW that insisted...

as for challenging courses, i guess it depends on the professor/student, because my UW experience was incredibly easy.

rok do you dislike D.C? I was just curious because you didn't apply to Georgetown which seems like it would be a bit more challenging for you.

i think it's pretty important to remember that at every school someone is going to LOVE it and someone will HATE it because there are very different types of people who have very different types of experienes. I know people who LOVE gw and are in heaven, and i know people who transferred out! comparing individual experiences is a bit like comparing apples and oranges

I still don't understand how some acceptances and some rejections were sent out but I still have not received any word...and supposedly the reply date is 9 May.

Wow! I got my "big envelope" which is an offer of admission from GW. I applied to the Elliot School of International Affairs. I'm still waiting on GU though which sucks because the deadline for enrollment is 9 May. How does that work when GU doesn't even send out notification until 1 June? Anyone have the same problem? Any ideas?

Still happy that I at least got in!

Darling when did you have your application in for GW?

AF_Transfer,

I turned in the first part of my application online and ordered official college transfer transcripts on the 26th of February. On March 1st I sent in some supplemental materials and while I don't remember the exact date that I turned in Part 2 of the application I think it was sometime in the last week of March.

Since it is only the 27th of April I consider that a pretty quick turnaround time!

This is the first acceptence/rejection letter that I've gotten so I'm pretty happy. Now when are the financial aid packets supposed to arrive? I need to know if I can even AFFORD to attend GW.

Yeah I contacted the adcomm at GWU about my application to make sure that all the materials that I needed were in...they told me not to worry and that my application has already been reviewed...then they mentioned those five magic words "we are offering you admission!" I am so psyched, they also told me that the official package will be put in the mail on May 9th, no word on the financial aid though....good luck with the money situation!

I am EXTREMELY frustrated with the GWU financial aid office right now. I have called them three times since I received my offer of admission, and they have told me each time that I haven't even been reviewed for aid yet, and that I will be shortly. So that means its going to be a long time until I hear, since you figure once they review me it will probably take at least a week for me to get word by mail. I find it pretty unprofessional that almost 2 weeks after I was accepted, the financial aid office hasn't even REVIEWED me yet!

That is really unfortunate, especially since they want a deposit from you and you have no idea how much a year will cost!

Hey, I just called GWU and apparently CollegeBoard never sent my PROFILE information to them so the Fin Aid office hasn't even looked at my stuff. That's pretty bad for me....Ouch. Well, I rectified it with CollegeBoard and they are sending it out ASAP. The guy I talked to at GWU said they could give me a preliminary answer quickly but the final decision might be a while. He also said that if I don't know solid answers by 9 May (enrollment deposit due date) I can ask for an extension based on the decision to wait for a finalized financial aid packet.

Good news!

I just called and found out my finanical aid package. It's very generous! All in all, including outside military tuition assistance benefits and MGIB adding up to about 8k, I'll only be responsible for $1,600 in subsidized stafford loans. Yay!

What is the work study like?

^^ that's a pretty sweet package.

I got my big envelope! I'm so relieved; still waiting on NYU and Emory, but a lot less stressed out now :) I hope my finaid package gets here soon; but since the other schools I applied to are pretty selective, it might not matter whether or not I get any money :/

I am a nontraditonal student (28 years old) who was admitted to Columbian College of Arts and Sciences at GWU for the fall for a second bachelor's degree. I have other degrees, yet I have a soft spot to pursue my first love: English Literature. I will be pursuing pre-medical course work concurrently. I'm awaiting a financial aid award letter like others. GWU's price tag is outrageous. I will ask for an extension because my deposit is due on the 8th of June.

I would like to know did anyone get a transfer credit evaluation? I'm looking to speak to someone in my department to estimate the time it will take to pursue an English degree with them based on the credits I have. I received an evaluation of credits, but it seems incomplete or at least I don't understand it. I think I'll contact someone from my department on Tuesday.

I'm looking into Drexel (received a Dean's scholarship -- but not a fan of the quarter system). I am also waiting to hear a decision from Columbia University School of General Studies, Adelphi University, Texas Christian University, Brandeis University, and Southern Methodist University in Dallas. I'm hoping to decide by early July. I'm quitting my crappy job and would like to go on summer vacation to celebrate. ;) Woo hoo! :)

Did anyone upon reviewing their transfer credit evaluation see that they were awarded 2.67 credits for classes instead of three. This is what I got and I was wondering if this was a product of me being on the quarter system at my previous school or what.

Has anyone gotten their deposit deadline extended? My deadline is June 6 and I really want to visit the campus before saying yes, but I can't get there before the week of June 4. I suppose if I really wanted to, I could visit that Monday and just drop off my deposit, but that's cutting it a touch close, I think.

Does anyone know when Spring transfers will hear a response? Also, what does the admittance package look like and what will the envelope of deathly rejection look like...I'll be at college at the time so it will give my parents an idea (yeah I'm desperate).
