GWU and NYU Chances.

Hello,

I am looking for some possible reassurance with transferring. I am currently in my second quarter at a respected state school (I predict I will be able to maintain my 4.0, though I may go down to a 3.8).

First quarter GPA: 4.0
High School GPA: Approx. 3.8 (I don’t remember the exact number)
ACT: 26 (low, I know)

I received great letters of recommendation from two of my professors, one of which holds a PHD from Yale and is well respected in her field.

My ECs aren’t too traditional. They include helping an author with research for a novel (I am cited in his acknowledgments) and being the youngest person in a company’s history to hold a managerial position. I was also the sole caretaker of my father (he had MS) during my high school years.

I am in the process of applying to both NYU CAS and GWU CAS for fall 2009, my sophomore year. I have taken the time to write very thorough essays with very good reasoning for wanting to transfer and what each university will offer me. I have also visited GWU and plan on visiting NYU shortly.

So, how does everyone here feel about my chances at each of these schools? Will my low ACT score hinder me, despite my strong college grades?

Thanks!

I think you will have strong chances at both schools. Are you aware that for GWU you do not need to submit your standardized testing/ high school record if you have completed over a years worth of college credit. Regardless of this I think you will be a good candidate for admission; however, it's definitely something to consider should you be concerned. With respect to NYU, I believe you have a good shot there as well. Again, should you choose to complete 30 credits or over I don't believe you will need to submit your ACT. I did not submit mine and was admitted for spring 09 at CAS.

Best of luck!

Very good shot at both schools
