GWU CHANCES - My GPA and SAT are bad but I have legacy, EC's and heart!!!

Hey guys!

White female from Massachusetts (gay if that counts for anything?? still trying to figure out if that makes any difference lol).

I go to a National Blue Ribbon School for Excellence (and one of the best public schools in the state).

My overall unweighted GPA is 3.06 because I didn’t care about school at all my freshman and sophomore years, but I turned it around in the past year and my junior year GPA is a 3.7 unweighted with honors courses, so I’m hoping my improvement counts for something.

My SAT score is 1100/1600.

My dad went to GWU for law school and is very active in the alumni association, so I’m hoping that gets me somewhere.

I wrote a really good essay, I’m pretty sure, and I’m hoping my GW common app supplement essays will be helpful, since writing is my strong suit.

I’m also thinking of including a portfolio with photographs I’ve taken and a singing supplement. I’ve been trying to research on CC whether that’s a good idea or not but it’s still unclear to me if it would help my chances at all. It’s a large part of my identity and something I wish to continue in college (non-major though).

My EC’s include president of the Drama and Fashion clubs, 4 years and 8 school shows with lead roles, volunteering for educational community theater, audition only a cappella 2 years, multiple out of school theater intensives, 2 part time jobs, assistant-directed student play, chosen for Senior Independent Project Program out of strong applicant pool, plus more but you get the picture.

I am honestly struggling with whether I should even apply. Being realistic, my chances of getting in aren’t great but I’m hoping one of you can either tell me straight that I’m either in or out. It would save me the admission fee and a lot of stress. Thanks!
