How rigorous are the classes at GW? Would taking 5 classes while trying to get a part-time job too difficult? I want to make sure I still get good grades in college, and even hoping to get a job to help pay for my tuition. Could current GW students give me advice on this?

i took 5 classes both semesters my first year (actually 6 but the last was a one credit class so it wasn’t really a class). i was fine.

i would suggest maybe waiting on the part time job until second semester. most freshman wait until second semester to get a job or an internship just because it gives you more time to ease in.

Yeah, I’m thinking that too. I was really bored today and decided to look at some of the classes that are offered at GW and see what I want to take my first semester. I think I want to take 5 classes, but one of those classes is 1-2 credits but it still came out to 17 credits. Is that too much? (one was MWF, one was MW and TH, one was just T, one was TH, and another was just F)

you’ll be hit from 1,000 different angles your first semester (social, academic, general college adjustment) so i’d schedule classes on the lighter side.

To OP

5 Classes sounds good - make sure you have several alternates that work with your schedule. Getting classes as an incoming freshman can be difficult.

Make sure you register on your day/time EXACTLY when your window opens.

Best of luck.

Five classes is normal. I wouldn’t take any more than that just because of class time. Even if the credits only amount to 15, the more time you spend in class, the less time you have to study/hang out with friends/do social stuff/etc…all that is really important your first semester.
