GWU ED 2021

No one applying to the Engineering school?

ED 1 to the Elliot School here. Submitting a lot of test scores, don’t know if that is a good idea or not.

I heard that if you don’t apply for financial aid at GW that your almost guaranteed admission. Is this true?

I am trying to get invited to join the politics and values program. Anyone else?

@ace102 technically yes. However, an admissions rep reviews your application first and decides whether or not to acccept you. If you’re accepted, your application moves to the financial aid office where they determine how much money they can give away for the ED students. So technically, you do have a better shot of getting in if you don’t apply for financial aid but you still have to make it past the first round of admissions.

@ace102 I highly doubt that’s true. Granted, I’m not on the Admissions Board, but I’d bet that it’s not as simple as not applying for aid. I do believe, however, that being able to pay the full cost of admission gives you some leeway, but I doubt it means the school would let in a sub-par student.

@NHuffer I agree with you. I think it just enhances your application a bit but it doesn’t guarantee anything. I’m just asking this since I qualify for tuition remission, so I’m gonna put that I don’t need financial aid.

Just submitted my common App!

I just applied to the Columbian school with a 3.6 UW and a 31 ACT

Submitted my application to the School of Engineering and Applied Science!

Has anyone gotten a email with a GW ID to check your application status?

yes, you usually get it a few days after you submit the common app.

I applied last friday and still haven’t gotten an email- since the app is due today should I be worried?

No you should get it tomorrow or the next day, don’t sweat it.

I never received an email from them after a few weeks and just emailed them. They said they received everything, apologized, and gave me my GWU ID.

I submitted two weeks ago and still haven’t gotten mine smh

@trent6543 did you email your admissions representative or the general GW admissions?

@ace102 One of the issues GW ran into was their discussion of “need blind” versus “need aware”. For many years the school advised that they were “need blind”. In 2013 the GW Hatchet published the following article:
http://www.gwhatchet.com/2013/10/21/gw-misrepresented-admissions-and-financial-aid-policy-for-years/

It shed light on the issue and discussed the admissions process. Initially it did concern us when our daughter applied last year but it did not deter her/us from applying.

She applied test optional and for financial aid (we have a high EFC so we knew we wouldn’t receive financial aid). She was accepted to the Elliott School, the University Honors Program and received a very generous Presidential Academic Scholarship. She was also accepted to American University’s School of International Service (and Global Scholars Program) but received no aid or scholarships.

Legacy means that youir parent(s) went there; not sure how it works with child of a faculty member but I know two siblings whose BOTH parents went to GWU and they were not offered admission. I would not recommend sending your scores. My son was advised by both his guidance counselor and a private counselor to send them only if he had a 30 or above. He had a a 31 and was offered admission. Good luck!

Applied ED I to Columbian for Political Science with a Public Policy focus. Good luck everyone!
