GWU or NYU? Please help:)))

GWU: MA of global communication. The primary focus is on International affairs, then communication.

NYU: MA, News and Documentary.

I'm very passionate about documentary filmmaking. From this aspect, NYU fits my pursuit better.

The problem of NYU's program is that it's only 16 month, I would consider it too short compared to two years at GWU because of my identity as an international student. To have enough time to accommodate and do internships are really important. I'm unsure about how big the chance is to interact with documentary filmmakers at NYU. And..I do not really like the news part....I don't want to be a reporter or editor...

Another consideration is that what people lean at J-school always seem too narrow. I think to learn IR would facilitate one's career in media field. GWU's school of media and public affairs also offer a documentary program where people can get a certificate. But the overall environment seems very political, the doc program included. And there would be less chance to know people in the field of documentary at GWU.

I have to consider the chance of employment after graduation. one or two years is definitely not enough for me to know the country, though i do plan to return to my country eventually, but to work for several years in the US is important.

So......What should be my choice???

Anyone familiar with NYU's News and Documentary? How about the internship or job chances for their graduate students?

Big thanks!!!!!

Why don’t you ask each department for some contacts who are international students in that MA program, and see what you can learn from them? Also ask about international alumni from the past couple of years from that program. If the school won’t help, perhaps reaching out to someone on Facebook who could help put you in contact with some other international students?

Thank you!!!
it’s a good idea to write to the department.

But facebook is not available in China…Government censorship…
