GWU or NYU?

GW is cheaper cuz of the financial aid... but NYU is a lot higher in ranking...

If you are truly needy, then don't put a burden on yourself or your family to go to NYU. I was accepted to higher ranked schools last year, but chose GW because I couldn't afford JHU. GW is a great school and offers plenty of prestige, so I'd go with GW.

what about if money isnt a problem, got none from either.

It depends somewhat on your major, and also what you consider important. However, NYU tops GW in rankings, prestige, selectivity, etc.

so do you think it's worth the money to get all of that then? also, I plan to major in communications so do you know which college is better?

Wanster: did you get to visit NYU?, GWU?

Both are , obviously, big cities and offer similiar diversions: museums, parks, theater, opera, clubs, concert venues, nearby sports arenas, restaurants, etc. NY beats DC for shopping though. Both are surrounded by smaller neighborhoods that offer interesting cultural diversity. Both are similiar in their non-traditional campus settings, although GW offers the Mount Vernon setting that, although small, approximates the typical campus. Both have extremely exciting programs so it depends on what you are into. Anything political or related to international affairs:GW. Film, drama: NYU. Communications? Narrow that down a little. I live about an hour north of NYC, and I have chosen GW. For me, DC is a much more manageable city. Housing for NYU tends to be far more spread out. So you can, for example, have a dorm in Harlem which is up near the Bronx. Now, I have no problem with Harlem, it's just that is about the farthest housing from the "campus" at Washington Square, which is toward the lower end of Manhatten. So even though NYU has campus transportation, like GW, it could take you 40 minutes to get from your dorm to classes.

Shopping might be better in NYC, but Georgetown isn't too shabby either. I'm a NYC native, and I agree that DC is more accessible, but NYC is larger.

"Housing for NYU tends to be far more spread out. So you can, for example, have a dorm in Harlem which is up near the Bronx."

That is PATENTLY FALSE...there is no NYU dorm in Harlem, or anywhere near Harlem for that matter. All NYU freshmen dorms are within a 5-10 minute walk from Washington Square where classe are. The majority of upper classmen dorms are in Union Square, which is a 10-15 minute walk from campus.

There are some dorms (like 3 or 4) which can be a MAXIMUM of a 30 minute subway or NYU bus ride from campus, but those are mostly composed of sophomores and transfers...and are also the exception, not the rule. Also, the farther the dorm is, the nicer it tends to be...some are downright luxerious.

i'm gonna have a hard time between NYU and GWU (if i get into GW!!) as well...see my problem is i want to have either a psych or english major i can't decide!!

Compare both campuses with these maps:

NYU: <a href="http://www.nyu.edu/v40extras/nyumap.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://www.nyu.edu/v40extras/nyumap.pdf</a>
GW: <a href="http://www.gwu.edu/%7Emap/pmap/GW_CampusMap.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://www.gwu.edu/~map/pmap/GW_CampusMap.pdf</a></p>

GW is restricted to Foggy Bottom, while NYU is very spread out. I would go with the $ at GW, personally, but NYU still looks really cool.

ThePrettyOne, NYU is more selective than GW (I believe) so I wouldn't worry about not getting into GW. Then again, we all know they are suffering from some serious Tufts Syndrome, so who knows.

^troll

Upenn can have her

Actually, I haven't quite decided where I'm going yet. What's a troll?

is that why you created a myspace group for upenn '09?

Umm, I didn't create it?

I joined it to talk with other potential classmates. Honestly, why would I lie about attending a school like Penn (which I very well may choose to do)?

ms thang i recommend that you spend a few years in an artic research station so american university students could be spared from your vapidity, *****iness and insanity for some time as you pad your grad school application.

but as long as you're at least a few hours from nyu or any school i'd like to transfer to that's cool too.
