A GWU recruiter came to my public high school and based upon my transcript through 3/4 of my junior said they would discount GW's tuition by 3/4 and offer me no tuition if I was interested in studying engineering. I want to know if I was just getting a "come-on". I am not interested in engineering.

As I said I am a junior (senior come 9/1)

class rank 2/284
PSAT 227 National Merit Qualifier (1st Round)
SAT's V 740; M 720; W 690
weighted GPA 4.52 (because honors and AP courses can weight > 1.0

WHO KNOWS? My son didn't get any aid, he was an ED acceptee... but... if you want to go.... GET IT IN WRITING, NOW!

My stats were slightly better than yours (SAT and GPA wise), and I got half tuition for a non-engineering but exclusive major (Poli Comm).

I was told by the admissions and FA offices that the most an incoming freshmen gets is 1/2 tuition, but it probably is different for the engineering students.

If I were you I'd go for it. It's a great school and has some really exceptional programs, so you should at least consider it. My understanding is that if you have the SAT, you will probably get half tuition. No reason not to apply...

Yes, it's true. In the engineering school one gets a 3/4 tuition scholarship with a 1400 and above SAT and top 10% of high school class. In the other schools within GW the scholarships are less generous I believe the most you can get is 1/2 tuition scholarship, which I think you'd probably qualify for.

yea.. engineering kids get A LOT of scholarship money. especially biomedical engineering students.. i think anyway. several of my friends are all on full tuition scholarships.

Be warned - don't get your hopes set on GW if you can't afford the $50,000 a year price tag - they like the kids with the money and if two kids are on par academically and one has the money and one doesn't . . .

I was under the impression that GWU had a need-blind admissions process, but they do not guarantee 100% of your demonstrated need...

so they will admit you but not necessarily make it affordable. Am I mistaken? Are they not need-blind?

Zildj555-Don't take what some people say on this board too literally. Some comments are not supported by facts. My D got a merit scholarship from GW even though she was accepted ED. In other words, they already knew she was coming, didn't have to give her a scholarship to entice her, but they did anyway. As for need based money, we didn't qualify for that.

GW is need-blind. If you have need, they will meet most of it. They met like 95% of my need my first year than then 90-91% of it my second and third years.
