GWU transfer/other questions

Just finished my second year of college. Currently taking some summer classes but thinking of dropping about 3 of them that haven't started yet, first 2 are almost over. What would my chances at GWU be? I probably shouldn't take any classes during the upcoming fall semester to keep my credits down. What should I do during that semester?

What other schools would you recommend other than GWU? Hopefully those that provide similar financial aid and urban environments. I think GWU meets around 94%, so that and above would be ideal.

Not open to retaking SAT/ACT. Will provide HS record if absolutely necessary, though it is quite subpar.

•3.6x GPA (strong upward trend, got a 3.9x last semester) w/67 credits, will probably be 73 since I'm currently taking 2 summer classes that are almost over. I can probably drop the other 3 I was planning on taking though.
•URM
•Hoping to study English at GWU or similar schools
ECs that I'm not too involved with now, but once was
-College Paper
-Professional Frat
-On campus job
-Selective political internship freshman summer

I am not sure if that 94% holds true to Transfer students, I believe that is only freshmen applicants and even that seems high compared to the financial packages I have seen some people get. Since you enjoy the urban areas, look into American University and maybe Catholic as a safety. Take a look at Fordham in the bronx, I would suggest NYU but they are notoriously known to give poor financial aid packages. Boston College is full need although slighty out of the city but a great school non the less. University of Pittsburgh would be great location wise.

Thank you for the response. I’d have to call and ask if they pledge to meet a similar amount for transfer students. I actually researched Fordham quite a bit, since I have family in NY I could stay with to avoid room and board. Their financial aid is just as poor if not worse than NYU’s unfortunately.

I’m also not sure if I would be a competitive candidate for BC. Do you think so?

I am not sure for BC it would definitely help if your gpa was a tad bit higher. Also I believe BC is one of the schools that still require SAT scores and high school transcript although it would be less significant than your current College stats. I have also heard that transfer essays are very very important so spend alot of time on thoses. I was just looking at the tuition prices and such at Fordham and had no idea the school was that expensive, definitely not worth that price in my opinion unless you receive lots of aid. Unforunately most schools are not full need especially not for transfers with the exception of the very top and selective schools. If you are interested in top publics like UNC or UVA they are both full need although not really an urban area but top academics. If you are interested in the west coast USC has a pretty decent transfer acceptance rate and once you have 60 plus credits they only request your current college transcripts and recs. Emory has a similar policy and is located in the large city of Atlanta if that is not to far and they also meet full need.

Thanks again! I’ll definitely look in to UVA and Emory.
