GWU Transfer Students

Hey everyone, I am a freshmen and I'm transfering from a UC to GWU. Apparently I called the Admission Office today and they told me they are giving out admissions starting next week. But still, did anybody hear back early? If you did, post your stats and I congratulate you first of all.

hey i was accepted yesterday...

im a frosh at cornell u., 3.95 GPA
high school gpa 4.0 UW, 4.9 W ranked 3 out of about 320
SATs: 680 math, 750 verbal, 750 writing
SAT II's: 700 Spanish, 720 Literature
EC's are fine/normal

I applied to arts and sciences for what its worth

Why are you leaving Cornell? The weather? Or do you prefer to be in DC?

DC...for sure. Cornell is so isolated. I applied to georgetown too...but i would definitely consider GW if they would give me merit aid or something to make it more affordable bc they are ridiculouslyyy expensive (my family has just enough money not to get finaid...but I'm not rich by any means). too bad they dont seem to offer merit scholarships for transfers :( im a natl merit finalist and it kills me that i gave up so many great schools that would've helped me out financially so that i could waste time/money at the most boring ivy on earth. ok rant over lol

Do they send you a email first before you check ur application status or you jus got it when you logged onto your status page and it said you were accepted? i'm scared to look at it now.

nope i didnt get an email...just showed up in the mail. its been days since i got it and still no email or update on the website.

I applied to the Elliott School of International Affairs as a Jr. transfer. Have yet to receive any notifications. In fact, they're still reviewing my application.

I found out on Friday evening by checking the website. Did not think I was going to get in, so now I'm just waiting for my packet to get here so I can send in my acceptance. I should transfer in to the Elliot School of International Affairs with around 60 credits

GPA from community college: 3.28
GPA from HS: 2.18
Rank: 218/232
Didn't take SATs
e/c: Excessively high; I only got in becuase of them as you can see my GPA is lacking.

I GOT IN TOO!!! Yippieeeeee for all of us.

BassAddicted, I'm sure your essay was stellar and you took some tough courses. Don't forget, it's not ALL GPA. So long as you're above a 3.0 and have a GOOD essay, you're basically in. And not to mention enough credits obviously.

My essay connected me to GWU and DC itself on a personal level and I believe that's what helped a lot.

Let's just hope GWU goes UP in the national rankings and not continue to slide down...

^^^everyone who was accepted and plans to attend should join the facebook group!

Ha0luvzu-What UC are you transferring from, if you don't mind me asking? What didn't you like about it?

BassAddicted, you must have transferred from Virginia Community Colleges ( I guess). I`m really curious about your ecs.

BassAddicted - I also am curious about your ec's. Your grades, class standing in hs, etc. seem really low for GW. You must have some kind of strong "hook". Legacy???? I don't agree with NMoral.... that if you have a 3.0 and a good essay you are in, you would need phenomenal boards to compensate.

PEEJAY, I'm just saying that they consider people within a 3.0+ range. I suppose I shouldn't have made it sound like a 3.0 is a sure thing, perhaps other inquiries would be important, like ECs, rigor of classes, ect...

A person with a 3.0 gpa, few or no honors and AP classes, 1000 verbal and math sat, and little ec would not be considered for a second.

From what I've seen, the 3.0 would have to be from a very rigorous course load, combined with really high sats or acts, and incredible ec's.

It's not a school an average student would get in to.

I will be going to Lawrence university ( Liberal Arts) in the fall. I don't know if its the right school for me therefore I want to transfer to GWU ( school international studies) the second year. What kind of GPA do i need to get in? what other things i need to really become a strong applicant. My SATs were not that great so i do not submit it. Any advise

Hi everyone! I’m an international student currently at Montgomery college and my gpa is 3.3, I want to transfer to GW engineering department. Do u think I have a chance to get in? I know my gpa is not great but I did a lot of EC especially for charity and organizations.
Please let me know
Thank you…

ksal20, your gpa is a bit low but your EC might make up for it. It also depends on your essays and letters of recommendation.

I got my acceptance a couple of weeks ago. I am also a freshmen going to GW and I am kinda of nervous. I am between GW and AU.
