I couldn't find a thread for those of us applying to transfer in for Fall 2010, so I figured this would be sufficient.

Freshman International Business Major (45 Credits)
GPA (HS) 3.54 (College) 3.96
ACT 28
Lots of ECS & Volunteer Service, Two International volunteer trips stand out.
Great Recommendations, GWU Alumni

Hoping I stand a chance but I heard acceptance rates dropped by like 7%?!

Political Communication major
GPA (HS) 3.6 GPA (College) 3.8 and change… 4.0 this last term
SAT 1850 (fail)
Loads of EC’s (track captain, cross country captain, Student Council President, Extensive theater, blah blah blah) and Volunteer work
Good Recommendations… Killer Essays
Semester this fall Semester at a Conservatory studying Acting… Decided it wasn’t for me

can’t decide whether or not that hurts or helps my application
I’m learning towards hurts

and michaellungrrr, your application looks pretty wicked. 3.96 is hard to beat. Is the school you are transferring from a CC, public, or Private institution?

its a tier 4 private catholic university in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Environmental Studies major
GPA (College) 3.89 at a CC, but with rigorous coursework 20 credits/ qtr w/ full time work
ACT 28
EC’s similar to Nickeatworld (track/CC captain, theatre, volunteer w/ special olympics…)
Essay felt really well organized - concise yet descriptive

I am hoping my military and work experience sets me apart. I have 4 years active duty/2years reserve as an analyst and a little over a year as an analyst in a fusion center. My worry is my work isn’t related to my projected major, but analysis is useful in any field…at least I hope thats how they see it. I had a few great letters of recommendation from my superiors.

I check my activity center every day even though they say notifications won’t go out till the 1st! anyone else overobsessed? :D

Reading this article: [Acceptance rate hits historic low - News](http://media.www.gwhatchet.com/media/storage/paper332/news/2010/04/05/News/Acceptance.Rate.Hits.Historic.Low-3899804.shtml)

It seems like for fall 2009 they admitted more freshman than usual, and had to cut down on the number of transfers as a result. However, this year they admitted 550 fewer students than last year. Hopefully this means that they will have more room for transfers in 2010 than in 2009 hopefully…

does anyone have an idea when decisions are made? i know may 1 is the given date, do they sometimes come earlier?

Freshmen admitted have until May 1st to make a deposit, so I think they will wait until they have a final number of freshmen before determining how much room they have for transfers and sending out notifications accordingly. I have been searching around trying to find someone who has posted that they were admitted, but all I see are freshman posters so far

ah, i see i applied to Georgetown as well; the date they gave was June 1 but people were notified as early as April 24-27ish in past years

International Relations Major (would be International Politics at GW)
GPA 3.4 (college) 4.0 (high school…still matters I think since I’m only a freshman)
ACT 31
ECs tons in high school, at college was selected for a team for a really prestigious international conference
Essay was short but very descriptive as to why I felt GW was a better fit than my current institution
Recs, really strong professor rec and I have one from a GW professor

I’m not a very patient person so I’m hoping the decisions come out soon! Will we get an e-mail or will it be snail mail?

Hopefully they will accept more transfers for Fall 2010. At orientation for 2009, they told us the transfer rate was something like 10-11%.

As for when you should hear… KitnKat is correct. They’ll be waiting for freshman decisions first so it’s highly unlikely you’ll hear before mid to late May. Last year, I didn’t hear until very very late May, and on CC, at the time, I was one of the first. I had previously applied and been accepted but my acceptance hadn’t come until literally two weeks before the semester started and it was logistically impossible to make it. It also then took an additional month a half to hear about housing and fin aid.

My acceptance came snail mail which freaked me out since I was expecting an e-mail first.

Best of luck!

Business Major
hs gpa- 3.7 I think not really sure, college gpa 4.0 25 units completed taking 15 more this semester.
I attend a cc in southern california
sat average so average I won’t even state how average
played sports in high school had an internship and some other ec’s

I received an email saying I was missing a transcript form dual enrollment I had in high school on friday and to fax it asap. soonest I can send it is Monday I explained. isn’t this a bit weird for a couple of days before decisions? wouldnt they have reviewed my application?

International Affairs Major/ also applied to the 6 year BA/JD program.

Non-traditional 28yr student who dropped out of HS during junior year to complete GED and attend CC. Over 10 years of sales and management work experience.
Transfer from Florida CC with a Finance AA and 62 credits/ 3.90GPA.
VP for Phi Theta Kappa and Phi Beta Lambda. Mentor in two college campuses and member of the international education committee. Over 250 volunteer hours in less than a year, after being laid off my last place of employment as a Sales Mgr. for a packing supply company.

I hope I can have an opportunity among the many bright minds that apply to be admitted, Including everyone in CC. Best of luck to everyone!!! ( including myself…lol!)

michaelungerrr

A few posters last year said they had to submit extra forms (especially the college official’s form) GWU requested them all throughout May, after admission notifications would have usually been sent out. So I’d consider it a good sign that you’re being notified prior to the notification date rather than after. Maybe its a sign they want to admit you, but aren’t allowed to without all the documenation because it would be unfair to others.

I think as long as you get it in early this week it won’t affect your application. Just think that they probably wouldn’t bother asking if you didn’t stand a chance :D

haha thats what I was hoping, but i dont want to pump myself up in that manner. everything was fine though they misplaced the form and fixed things, just got a bit hyped over nothing. decisions need to come…now!

Admission decisions for transfer students weren’t available until May 15th last year, at the very earliest. I imagine this year’s release date will be similar.

They sent me an email back apologizing saying that they had just misplaced the transcript and it was received. Also, they said expect to hear from us early May… May 1 would be nice :)

I really hope I don’t have to wait for snail mail to hear - I’m out of town all next week with nobody to open mail for me at home!! I want to be able to check online all day long like I do now… at least once every 3-4 hours since I’m on a computer at work…it seems like there are fewer GWU transfer posters on here than last year…the field seems stronger though

according to the website notification starts tomorrow
