GWU vs Colorado Boulder

im considering ed 2 to gwu. afraid i wont get in regular.

heres the problem. finances arent really an issue, but id like to save money if possible.

colorado - good IR program - i like outdoorsy. -lots of kids - easy classes - signifigantly cheaper

gwash - good IR program - city like (which is fine) - still decent amount of kids - more expensive.

what im wondering is. does undergrad matter when pursuing a IR or International Business degree. if i can get into a good grad school will that be more important. go to colorado then georgetown/tufts/columbia etc etc. or do you need to go somewhere great (gwash) for undergrad. so what do you think?

Gosh, it seems apples and oranges. GW is ALWAYS on the top of the schools it “pays to apply early”. Like, say Brandeis, they have a much higher acceptance rate for the ED periods.

My daughter had GW on her short list. It is decidedly urban in feel and a sophisticated, international, student body. It also has that two campus thing going on. In general, it’s regarded as a “more competitive” school than Colorado, but a lot of that is (IMHO) the really expensive private school vibe in conjunction with it’s high profile international programs.

UCB is more diverse than a lot of state schools (pulls kids from east coast and west) but doesn’t have that mini-U.N feel. More scenic, centralized campus…more “quintessential college feel”. You also have that “school spirit” thing going-football teams and Greek life. Even if you’re paying out of state-it’s WAYYYYYY cheaper (as is the cost of living).

My daughter never would have considered a school like Boulder, and my son never would have considered GW. Both fantastic picks, maybe the compromise is applying to GW RD and then you can play the cards dealt? Binding ED (again-my opinion) should be reserved for schools you hands down want as a first choice and also should be in the “reachy” area.
