GWU vs. CUA

Right now I am down to either George Washington University or the Catholic University of America. I'm trying to compare and contrast both schools. Money and personal preference aside, could someone who is either in DC or familiar with both schools give me an brief comparison? I've done a lot of research online about facts and figures, but I feel personal opinions based on first hand experience are a more accurate source.

The specific differences that I am curious about are as follows:

-Level of Education
-Opportunity for Internships
-Networking/Connection opportunity
-Jobs after graduation (which will better assist with finding one?)
-Level of involvement in education experience (counselors and such)
-Any other significant differences

I know GWU beats CUA when it comes to prestige, but I wanted to know the actual extent of their differences. Both are in DC and both claim to utilize the city, so I guess I'm curious as to just how big the differences are.

Thank you in advance!!! Any insight is much appreciated.

Most people would not think twice about choosing GW over Catholic for undergraduate studies. GW is more prestigious, as you mention/. Additionally, its location in DC is significantly better than that of Catholic. In fact, Catholic’s location is a negative, although being in DC is great. GW students tend to be more diverse overall (geographically, culturally) and ambitious and are more connected to all that DC has to offer. CUA has a more distinct campus, whereas GW is truly urban in feel. In terms of religious background, obviously Catholic’s students are predominantly Catholic; GW is more diverse, with a significant Jewish population.

you may want to investigate Catholic’s environment. I have heard it is more restrictive, I have been there and it is not a very comfortable area. My D goes to school in DC and i asked her not to go there.

I can’t think of too many indices on which Catholic comes out ahead of GW.

Catholic is very good for theatre, but I suspect if you were seeking a degree in theatre, you wouldn’t even be asking the question.

And if being Catholic is important to you, then Catholic is certainly way ahead of GW there.

But other than that, I got nothin’. And, as the other posters have said, Catholic’s location in the District is lacking in the advantages and abounding in the disadvantages of urban life.

Foggy Bottom, without question!

I just went to a concert that was located near the CUA campus this weekend. Let’s just say it was a good thing I was with like 20 of my friends, because I definitely would not have felt comfortable walking there otherwise.

Brooklyn, we go hard!

Do you mean Brookland?
