I am in at GW for Political Communication as a transfer student for fall 2008. Any thoughts on why I would choose it over NYU? I get the feeling these schools have many cross applicants. Both are in great cities, have a large student population, and yada yada yada. I know DC is like the place for the study of politics, but I love NYU a lot....I am having trouble picking one. I know that I got into one of the "restricted" majors at GW, and that it has a lot of cool things to offer me. Is it hard to make friends at GW? How about dorms and the food? Any comments?

My daughter chose GW over NYU. We visited both. GW won hands down. The campus is cleaner. The proximity to DC's vast resources & internship/opportunities are superior. It has a city feel without the undesirable city elements. NYU has the brand name which certainly helps on your first resume. But GW can provide excellent opportunities to stack up that resume.

And if you are doing Political Communication, why would you not want to be in the center of political communication in DC?

I chose GW over NYU, too, but for me it was a very, very hard decision. I love NYU and part of me still wishes I were going there next year, but in the end, GW just feels more like a college. GW has a more defined campus and, to me, there seemed to be a little more school spirit/unity. I don't need a "traditional" campus- I love the city- but I do want to feel like I am going to college, not just living in the city and taking classes.
