I'm under the opinion that there are several different options for freshmen to take
For their gym class. Is this correct? Also, what are the options that I could take??

You are correct. There are three units each semester which you sign up for during your first week of classes. The units change from year to year, but you can take a look this year’s selection here:
[ND Department of Physical Education and Wellness Instruction](http://www.nd.edu/~physedu/pe_fall_semA.html)
Two of the units must be “Contemporary Topics” (i.e. health), and one must be swimming, if you did not pass the swim test.

This is a great website ^! As I recall, I don’t think this website was available when our freshman was registering. The info about swim test (and esp the video) look very helpful! There always seems to be a lot a questions about the swim test, and I think the video on swimming pretty much answers everything. Hopefully, we can remember this thread when other freshman are registering this year! Thanks!

im a litle confused what classes u can take? is there a weight lifting course or anything? all i saw was like hiking, running, etc

there are 6 different units (3 for first semester and 3 for second semester). For everyone, two of those units are taken up by Contemporary Topics. If you fail the swim test (search for all threads about this if you have any questions) then I believe two more units are taken up by a swimming class.

Depending on how you do on the swim test, you then get to choose 2-4 units throughout the year. Different classes are offered at different times and in different seasons of the school year.

If you like a good work out, I highly suggest cycling if you can get Skube as an instructor.

Exhaustive list of what I can remember:

Tennis, Golf, Fundamentals of Physical Activity, Team Handball, Regular Handball, Weightlifting, Soccer, Swimming, Fencing, Rock Climbing, Hiking, Cycling, Volleyball.

If you can get anything at all with Coach O’Sullivan, it’ll be the best experience of your entire life. He is my favorite single person ever to exist. Just having class with him made my day better every time. He teaches mostly golf and Fundamentals of Physical Activity (a basic survey of a lot of different sports), but he might teach other stuff.
