jrcho88, you are obviously a giant loser at school. hahaha what a tool. if i knew who you were, im sure youd turn out to be one of the people (weirdos) at school who i laugh at. CHA-chinggggggggg.

i think there's a general consensus here that you are dense.

...and here come the personal attacks that have nothing to do with what I was trying to say.

PS TrackBabi, let's not turn this one into a AA debate :P

therealstory, care to elaborate on your claims without resorting to ridiculous statements?

umm ur the only one changing the subject. Word of advice: Don't attack Cornell in a Cornell forum. Not a good idea.

Nothing wrong with criticisms that are reasoned out.

I guess we have sharpstruck55 to thank for inadvertently opening the floodgates to this pointless arguing. Whatever, I'll leave it at that.

Therealstory, laughing at "weirdos" at Cornell makes you really cool, on a scale of one to really cool. They're like..really hard to find...and it's a huge challenge to point out their flaws...

Anyways, you guys (myself included, apparently) are all too inferior to argue because you go to Cornell. We obviously need to call in a moderator from the Hahvahd board.

Maybe we could even have a panel of moderators with representatives from Hahvahd, Princeton, Yale, and Stanford.... because they are just that much superior.

isnt that what you basically were saying before.. without the sarcastic tone?

most of the kids at cornell are comparable to those who got lucky cause of a random draw at harvard, princeton, or yale....

and jrcho88, there are stupid people at cornell. But they are not in any way representative of cornell. Do you know why there are stupid people at cornell? cause of Cornell's contracts with community colleges. You do realize that these community college kids only need a freshman year GPA of 3.0 to get in? Those are the guys that bring down Cornell's image. I do agree that these people are annoying and make us look bad. But hey, its not my policy and they dont seem to be changing it anytime soon.

anyone can get a 3.0 at a community college with minimal effort...my not-so-smart friend got a 3.7, smoked weed every day and hardly studied

people that come from community colleges are NOT stupid. whats wrong with you ripdcurl877?

"I do agree that these people are annoying and make us look bad."

you probably dont even know one person that came from a community college. well i know 3 and they worked their butts off to get here and they are still hard working. people like you are the reason cornell has an "image" at all.. because you all think you are so superior because daddy has lots of money and pays for you and your BMW.

eh...a bunch of my home friends go to the local community college and they're not that smart. Obviously there are exceptions...some people just don't have the money to attend a private college for four years and some people messed up in high school and want to turn their lives around (these are the types of people who might transfer to an Ivy after two years). Many of the people who attend the community college are the people who hardly got by in high school and lack study habits/motivation. These kids get drunk 7 days a week with their cool friends and end up dropping out or finishing a 2 year school in 4 years...and not attending Cornell, ever. CC transfers need decent SATs to get into Cornell anyway, so they're clearly not stupid.

jrcho you seem really embarassed that you go to cornell and like you give yourself ZERO credit. get over it, you DIDNT go to harvard.

Alright, first off......wait, what?? BMW? My daddy? Funny how you would say that to me. My "daddy" left us when I was 6, leaving my hard-working mother to take care of my brother, my sister, and I (actually my cornell essay topic...would you like a copy?). Well, I guess I do feel "superior" cause I'm poor and my family had to work their asses of to support each other (I'm currently at my 5th summer job as I type this).

Okay okay, so your main line of reasoning is: The smartest kids at Cornell at those from Community colleges, while the rest of Cornell are simply "rich" dumb kids who got in. Wow. You are even more mis-informed than jrcho88.

Sure, community college kids are "hard-working." Well, so are 300 of my fellow high school seniors, who worked their asses off only to make it into state schools. So why shouldnt they go to Cornell or Harvard? Cause it isn't about how hard working you are. It's hard work + brains. In fact, 60% of America (thats a couple hundred million people) work 2 jobs and on weekends to make ends meet. That's extremely hard working in my opinion. Hell, lets get Cornell to accept 100,000,000 people next year. How bout it?

Kids from community colleges aren't stupid? Sure, maybe 4-5 of them are geniuses who were unfortunate and had to attend a CC due to family circumstances. Now that, I completely understand. But the fact that Cornell grants AUTOMATIC admission to community college kids with a 3.0, is simply ridiculous. Think about it. Cornell rejects 4.0 transfers from Michigan or Berkeley, but accepts a 3.0 community college kid.

CMB720: You are seriously in for a big awakening.

I know 76 kids who go to a community college. That was the exact number printed on our high school senior destination list. I'm close friends with 14 of them. 2 of them lived in my neighborhood. One of them went to a CC cause his parents fell sick and he's transferring to Georgia Tech this Fall. Another CC took a year off to do Red Cross work in South Africa, that he promised to do during high school, but got bogged down so he owed them. He's going back to Boston U this Fall. ALL of them got a 4.0 in community college, and were not admitted due to some ignorant 3.0-auto-admit admissions policy.

So I know CCs. Some of them are geniuses. But the ones cornell admits, are the ones who were only smart enough to attend the contract-Community colleges cause they knew they can automatically transfer with a 3.0 and a few required courses.

Trust me, I've personally spoke with many of the students there who told me they were CC transfers. And I don't know about your intellectual threshold, but I quickly grew impatient with their having a very elementary vocabulary (I don't need to hear , *, *, *bag, and **** every 3 words cause you couldn't come up with a better term. Either that or they were trying too hard to look cool). This is the Ivy League, for gods sake.

ripcurl, there has to be more to that policy than automatically admitting cc students with a 3.0...it seems like you're oversimplifying it

i dont know about cornell programs, but i know theres one at columbia (i know someone who plans on doing this) where if you do 2 years at certain tri-state area community colleges, you can tranfer for the second 2 years and your degree says columbia. i dont know about our programs though

don't bash community college kids. Going to Cornell does not make us any better. There are three types of people that go to community college: kids who did horrible in high school and couldn't get in anywhere, people who can't afford 4-year schools but would like to go to some type of college, and people who don't know what they're doing and don't want to waste money.

And all these people are admirable because they still chose to get some sort of education even with their circumstance. My cousin came Nigeria when she was 19, went to community college for 2 years, then went to Howard for undergrad, and then got her nursing PhD at Yale. Ultimate community college dream story.

Don't worry yourself with these transfers from community college they are not messing with your grades or your lives in any way

well if you had SUCH a hard and tough upbringing, good thing you got into cornell right off the bat and didnt have to transfer in and be one of those stupid, annoying kids that "bring down our image".

yankee folk mannerisms aint got nothin on my southern charm...

You forgot the 4th type (I guess it's a more extreme form of the kids who did horrible in high school), trackbabi: the delinquents from high school who don't want to get completely disowned by their parents so they waste money going to the community college for 3 years before dropping out with a 1.0 GPA. I don't know how "admirable" I'd consider these people, since they don't put in any effort, don't go to class, and waste 6 semesters worth of money on an incomplete associates degree.
