Gym sucks?

Why does the one in the UC suck? I personally have ot visited this gym. But are CMU students too geeky to work out?

So you're gonna judge the basis of everything on one person's opinion? I guess the world is flat then :)

I try not to disagree with people when it comes to personal things. It creates unneeded animosity on msg boards so I just help them out. If he wants to waste his money at Bally's instead then whatever.

why would it be a waste of money? i've visited cmu and i would have to agree that the weightroom at the uc is...not the best. there arent any barbells and alot of the db's are missing :(

anyways, i think that if you want to really dedicate yourself to getting stronger, you should signup for an actual well-equipped gym :)

You can gain weight or muscle by using the equipment available at the gym at the U.C. There are even minicourses to show you how to do it. If you feel like you have to blow money to achieve it then I suggest purchasing massive loads of creatine instead and using the U.C. gym anyways.

well i dont know how dedicated the original poster is..if he's only looking to lose weight, then he can run on a treadmill or the track.

it all depends on how serious you are about working out

^ I agree with this. Eating healthy and consistently working out (in the right way) along with determination will be 90% of any progress you will make.

You can just take creatine and lease a Bowflex (it folds under your bed so yes it fits in your dorm) and you can basically pay a monthly fee or even use it free for 2 months or something b4 you return it.

My S is an avid weight lifter and he has been able to do his workouts on campus. I am not sure if he uses the gym in the UC or in the other gym near SCHWA. He has had no complaints that I know of.

The gym in the UC is a health-club kind of gym for people who are interested in obtaining/maintaining general fitness. If you want more of the "weight room" feel, head for the Skibo gym. They have free weights and such there. Unfortunately, you can't get in without a CMU ID, but I'm sure with a tour or host they'd let you.

so is skibo a normal gym? like that of any other college?
