Gym?

Does UCB have a gym on campus? If so, how is it and machines, weights, classes, etc. are available?

What gyms are near campus?

There’s the [Hearst Gym](http://calbears.berkeley.edu/insidepage.aspx?uid=64c465f2-fd68-41ed-bfc1-8d52b5691508). According to the site it is “located on the south side of campus on Bancroft Way at Bowditch Street, just across from the University Art Museum.”

There is the recreational sports facility (RSF) which is the main gym. It has all the usual gym machines, a weight room, basketball courts, handball/racket ball courts, different classes, and sometimes volleyball/badminton.

Cost 10$ a semester for students.

yea rsf south side. 24 hr fitness north side.

Machines are old but it works. Free towels (but don’t take them home with you) and some free classes. It’s overcrowded sometimes so try to go early, late, or midday if you want to beat the crowd.

is there a swim pool that I can use?

preferably indoors, i like to swim later in the evening.

^
lol ive accidently taken like 4 already… i don’t even use them = =. ill return them my senior year :P

I think Cal has three pools.

RSF has most of the stuff
[UC Berkeley Recreational Sports.](http://www.recsports.berkeley.edu/)

if you live in the residence halls, there are running machines, etc available downstairs.

i wish there were an indoor pool with free lap swim all the time. the hours suck at the three pools or are too far away for me (being in hillside). as long as we have membership to rsf, we can use spieker right?

Yep, you can use Spieker but make sure that when you go it is during open rec hours.

Check the following for open rec hours:
[UC Berkeley Recreational Sports: Swimming](http://calbears.berkeley.edu/insidepage.aspx?uid=9fcceb92-983f-4fb9-af56-4e753b07ad7f)

is the pool heated?

i doubt it…? Besides, I plan to go swimming because of the heat I’m expecting as it nears summer /sarcasm.

hmm i see…

The gym is kind of lame. Its all used passed down equipment. I heard other UC’s actually have nice gyms.

The pool is heated, not too hot, not too cold.

are we talking about the weight room?
yea…some of the machines makes me a bit wary, but really, I just need dumbbells and barbells…what more do you want in a weight room? (more space would be nice though) lol…
if you’re talking about the entire rsf, then eh. dunno what a real gym is supposed to look like

I was expecting something more on a 24hour fitness level. I hear other UC’s like UCLA have pretty nice gyms. RSF does have all the basic equipment you need, but it would definitely be nice to have more machines along with the free weights. I don’t know, maybe i’m just spoiled. Oh if you want to see what a real gym looks like, you should check out the main gym at Camp Pendleton…now thats a gym.

Thanks for responding everyone. :)
