Gym

I am a big gym freak and have not yet visited CalPoly but plan on going to Open House. Do they have a gym where someone not in sports can go or is there a 24 somewhere around the campus?

They have a gym on campus!
It’s reallly nice…

Yeah, there’s a Fitness Center on campus that you get in for free as a student.

There is a gym and they are currently remodeling and expanding it but it will not be fully completed until 2012 I think.

There is a gym on campus and like NTKS17 said they are remodeling. The gym is much too small compared to the amount of people that go and the student body. They say that a college gym should have 1 sq foot per person at the school at the gym (Cal Poly ~ 19,000 people so the gym space should be 19,000 sq ft. but its only 7000). It gets really crowded and you have to work in between sets a lot, especially during this remodeling phase. The remodeling is supposed to finish by 2011, which I highly doubt but its supposed to triple the size of the current weight lifting/machine area of the gym. They will add some more sport courts and I believe a leisure pool as well.

Alternative options are Club 24 (unaffiliated with 24 hour fitness) and Golds Gym, which is downtown.

Will the gym be done by winter 2012? I will be going there and it would be really nice to have a campus gym that is spacious. I’ve tried to find some information about the gym at cal polys homepage but I can’t find any?

I remembered seeing this a few weeks ago. It might help.

Google ASI Cal Poly. ASI is Associated Students, Inc. There is information on the rec center and the contruction plus a facebook link.

Think of this way, if they close the gym during Fall 2011 quarter, they will have it completed by winter quarter. The new gym will be much larger.

I was looking at gyms in the area, and I heard about club 24. Then I looked at their yelp page. I don’t think I’ll ever be going there. Check it out:
