Gymnastics program

Anyone out there that can speak to the gymnastics program (mens) at the academy? Experiences, any information beyond what is posted on the academy web site? We?re going to spend some time on this when we visit but if anyone has anything to share it would be greatly appreciated.

I can't speak to the varsity program (or whatever its equivalent is), but assuming the basic Plebe PE class rotation has not changed, you will spend a week or two doing basic gymnastics. Again, assuming it's still there, look up "Gymspastics" in Reef Points.

It was a hoot, and gave you a real appreciation for what the big gymnasts do. We did some work on the horse, the parallel bars, the high bar, trampolines, and a few others.

The only part I didn't like was when we had to jump into one end of the foam pit and walk/crawl through it to the other. The dust in our throats had us coughing as if we had just done the PRT run in Halsey. GAG!

MacDonough's gymnastics facility is really a cool place. Now that they are supposedly updating everything, I suspect it will be even better.

i didn't want to start a new thread, but question: is there a table tennis team at USNA? that might sound a bit ridiculous, but i'm pretty decent at the sport. or is there just a table out there for fun.

My son was recruited by the gymnastics coach there. They invited him out for a recruiting trip and was able to meet the team. He also was recruited by and visited USMA and USAFA. He eventually decided on USAFA and will be joining the class of 2011. I can tell you he was impressed with all of the academies he visited and each one had a little bit different coaching style. The USNA coach runs a pretty disciplined program and is more of an "old style" Bella Karoli (sp?) type coach. The gymnasts were welcoming and team oriented. Let me know if you have any more questions, I'd be glad to share whatever knowledge I have.
