I definitely plan on joining one next year (incoming 2015er) but I've been hearing that they're always packed and sometimes there's a wait to get in? I find this hard to believe since there's multiple gyms on campus..but if it's true does the same apply to classes like zumba or yoga? Thanks!

Yeah the gyms are crazy packed. 2 of the 4 gyms (excluding the varsity-only gyms) are tiny so that doesn’t really help. I don’t understand why Cornell doesn’t just build one extra gym to alleviate the congestion around peak hours (which are like almost every hour they’re open). I mean they’re spending 60 million on that new CS building, why not drop a quarter mil on a shiny gym.

Pro tip: I bring my gym bag to class with me sometimes and head straight to Teagle after lecture to avoid the rush.

It depends on what time you go. Helen Newman/Friedman are the main spots for fitness centers for freshmen. Helen Newman, however, also has basketball, swimming, bowling, and some other stuff.

Thanks for the tips guys. Guess I’ll have to be patient. Love the idea of bringing. gym bag to class!

As far as I understand we have to pay in order to use the gyms? Would you recommend to choose the “one semester” or “full year” option, which works best?

what about going to the gyms right when they open at 6 or 7? still packed?

Yes you have to pay, it’s about $150 for the full year. I don’t see the point in only buying a one semester membership.

And I can’t imagine it being packed at 6 or 7am but good luck waking up that early.

What’s the closest gym to Ives?

Teagle is right next to Ives

^Thanks Caillebotte. You’ve been a tremendous resource on CC vis-a-vis Cornell.

The teagle gym, around 7pm, really starts to empty. I’ve been the only one there sometimes.

In addition, Cornell is completely renovating and expanding Teagle soon…
