How are the fitness centers at UMich? Are there many? Are they free? Are they crowded a lot? When's the best time to go during the day?

Current Students: Do you find enough time to work out? I exercise everyday, but I'm thinking I'll be too busy with work to get in my hour of exercise everyday.

I dont know the answers to all the questions as i havent been there yet, but yes they have facilities, yes they are free to students, and i bet they are pretty nice considering Michigan's high profile sports teams as well as their own kineseology department. They have the CCRB and the IM building on central and then something on north campus i believe. I bet they get crowded.

IM building is closest to south quad/west quad/fletcher/helen newberry/betsey barbour/martha cook. CCRB is closest to all the dorms on the Hill. East quad is kinda inbetween, I think CCRB is a little closer. NCRB is closest to north campus dorms.

From what I've seen, slightly old but still good usable facilities. Pretty sure each building has a pool and weights and basketball courts and racquetball courts and all that good stuff. Some of my fellow counselors at camp complained about the lack of good free weights at the CCRB.

Never actually been to the IM building during the day, I usually went around 11PM to play racquetball as a homework break, and it was pretty empty.

"Rec Sports Expo is on Sunday, September 3rd at Palmer field. Come to Palmer Field between 11am - 2pm to find out about Rec Sports, Club Sports, IM sports, and employment opportunities!"

"Fall Registration is on Monday, September 11, 2006 at the IM Building. Register for Soccer, 3on3 Basketball, Softball, and Team Tennis. Signups are from 11am-4:30pm at the IM building main gym."

I don't know if they do it for 3v3 basketball, but at least for outdoor soccer you could sign up as an individual and be placed on a team.
