Do the guidance office counselors ever 'contact' college admissions counselor directly regarding particular student applications? Details? ( I.e a great student, yada yada, please please consider...)

Yes, gc’s are sometimes in contact and have working relationships with some college admissions.

Thank you.

I think it depends on the school. At big public schools generally not that often. And it may happen more in reverse - i.e. the admissions officer might call the school if there is something in the application they want to confirm. If the GC wants to say someone is a great student - they can put it in their recommendation. No need to call.

The one time GCs do call is regarding students on waitlists. I know in one case our GC was able to get a student off the WL. The school thought they hadn’t demonstrated enough interest. (They’d visited without registering because they just stayed with a campus friend and didn’t do official tours.)

That said, I have cousins who work as GCs at a private school. I think that the fact that they were at Harvard for grad school including being proctors in a freshman dorm, and one worked in the admissions office there, is a large part of why they were hired.
