The H&SS Supplement asks for intended major in H&SS.

Any idea how much this truly matters for admission?

I am planning on doing economics or political science, and at the end of the day am undecided. Will it change my chances at all by putting down undecided versus economics versus political science? If I put down economics and am accepted, will I be expected to be taking economic classes freshman year?

Any insights on this would be helpful.

Thanks!

As an incoming H&SS (now called DC - Dietrich College) student you don’t have to declare a major until sometime in sophomore year. I did remember that you could indicate which department/ major within DC you are interested in, but honestly, I have no idea how much that is going to impact admission. I do know, however, that if you put down economics as your interested major within DC in your Common Application, your database will be encoded with ECO, which means you are recognized as a potential economics major and will receive emails from the economics department. If you’re genuinely interested in doing econimics, then you should start taking economics classes during freshman year, as the curriculum is kinda sequential; otherwise, I wouldn’t think that you will be “expected” to take economics classes simply because you indicated some sort of interest at some point in time.
