H4 visa holder here!

I am a senior in high-school and am planning to proceed to college directly afterwards and I have an H4 Visa and I learned that private colleges give scholarships for H4 visa holders, and for some who don’t know, H4 visa holders are not eligible for FAFSA so obviously I cannot be supported by FAFSA. There are also a couple scholarships that I’m not eligible to apply for regarding my residency in the U.S.A but I really have a high interest on going to Virginia Tech. My high-school teachers have told me the public universities are cheaper than the private colleges and considering my desired major and the state I belong to, Virginia Tech is what I have been rooting for, but I was wondering if you’re able to receive any scholarship or financial help from public universities having an H4 visa with you?

So you are the child of an H1b visa holder. Your parent is a specialized worker in the U.S.

^Are you Virginia in-state? See http://www.admiss.vt.edu/apply/residency/

Yup. Pretty much my mom gets her working visa renewed constantly and now we’re working our way up to a green card but that’s gonna take a while and ill probbly in college while it’s being processed.

@4kidsdad‌ Yes, I am in Virginia.

Most schools are treating H4 Visa holders as international students. They don’t award scholarships just for H4 Visa holders.

International students get aid maybe merit from private schools. My friend’s daughter from Thailand got almost 25k from NYU.

SOME colleges provide aid to international students. Some provide need based institutional aid. Some provide merit aid.

But many don’t provide the same level of aid to international students. In other words…funds are limited.
