HA HA Duke got OWNED in NCAA tonight!

only fitting for the rejectees.

good luck all, you shall do well in life.

duke is overrated.

HAHAHAHA
I was deciding between Duke and Villanova as my 2 schools
I jokingly told my friends that if I got accepted into Duke I would let this game decide where I'm going.

Since I got rejected, I guess it really is fate for me to go to Villanova.

I still like Duke, but, I'll be honest, I wasn't unhappy with what happened tonight.

Ha, jdjaguar, I just posted about this on the 6pm decisions thread! I must say that Duke did not appear in my bracketology ;). Was a pleasure to stay up for this one, especially tonight.

AH-MEN!

Haha, they didn't even stand a chance. I would've felt bad, but then I remembered they didn't want me. SOOOOOO

hmm... when accepted = happy....when they lose = sad....

my bracket's busted

I am glad for two reasons: 1. I got rejected 2. This gives more hope for the waitlisted.

duke deserved it. they suck anyways

jdjaguar, aren't you someone's parent? Your maturity comes blasting through in this post.

Also, the fact that Duke is the only top 10 school to make to the sweet sixteen proves it's far from overrated.

haha beautiful <3

Probably lost because they had an extra 20,000+ rejected applicants routing against them last night!!!

Sophomoric posts such as jdjaguar’s make me laugh. Does he or anyone else have any idea of what it takes to be in the top 20 in the nation at the Div. 1 level?

Those of us who do don’t make idiotic comments about college athletes. We know what it is about. This doesn’t mean that fair commentary and well reasoned “could have done better in this area” statements are inappropriate - they are proper if expressed reasonably. But negative statements without any measured context well, just strike me as pretty bold for someone likely without top level athletic talent pinging away on a keyboard.

And don’t think the top 10 school and success in athletics comment isn’t relevant. Poor kids like myself back in the day knew darn well the opportunity Duke could provide - and Duke to its credit challenged me an made me work hard in school. No lower expectations were in place for an athlete. Not many places (and Duke is not perfect) can lay claim to this.

“No lower expectations were in place for an athlete.”

Really? This from a school that routinely recruits and admits “scholar” athletes with sub-900 SAT scores? According to several media outlets including Duke’s own student newspaper (The Chronicle), a former basketball player had a 2.3 GPA and a 15 ACT at the time of his recruitment by Coach K. Not only that, but the player ended up graduating, which actually says a lot about the rigor of Duke’s curriculum as well.

Why is everyone so defensive? Chill out. It is just a joke among the rejected applicants. When students are rejected, they tend to feel a sudden and deep hatred toward the college which they were rejected from, regardless of whether they feel they deserved a spot. Just let us (rejects) relieve some of our sadness by jokingly bashing Duke!

And who cares if Duke is a top ten school in the Div 1 level, they recruit all (or almost all) their players. I would bet 99.9% of their bball team could not get into the school w/o bball. Please do not associate their success in sports with the general student body.

NYC card made a very valid point with statistical proof. Adding onto that statement, I would assume the general rigor of the school is high, but they make ridiculous exceptions for their “scholar athletes.”

This happens at my hs all the time; Almost all the recruited athletes (wrestling state champs, etc.) can do whatever they want (text in class) while the rest of the student body has to abide by the rules. Furthermore, many of the athletes never do hw and still end up with a 3.0 GPA.

Go unc! ;)

The fact that you guys are making fun of dukes loss simply because they rejected you from their school is, extremely pitiful. If thats truly how shallow some of you are, i wish you the best of luck in life. You’ll need it.

@dnlgao, don’t let them upset you. Just give them their space to vent their frustrations. College admissions are very stressful and some people resort to derisive and hurtful comments to express their feelings. It just stems from the anger that many people are still feeling about not being accepted. I doubt any of them really mean what they say, and if they do, then so be it- it means Duke wasn’t right for them. In the end, nothing they say can in any way diminish Duke as one of the best universities in the world and an amazing place to attend college.

and whoever said Villanova>Duke…I mean, really? You judge the academic merits of an institution based on one basketball game? Or did I just not catch the punchline?

^^

thread was made for venting, yes, of course.

Duke is an awesome school.

good luck acceptees and rejectees alike.

Calm down. I didn’t even apply to Duke and I could obviously tell this thread was just for people who got rejected to insult the school to vent frustration. It is not a big deal, and these people are certainly not pitiful.

How is this harmful in the least? Lol, I know a lot more “pitiful” and “hurtful” things that they could be doing. Also, I know many people who either were accepted at Duke or are just plain bball fans that were trashing Duke after losing that badly to Villanova…lol, they did lose by 23 points…
