Haas Admissions Question

I am a new member to these forums, so I am not quite sure if this belongs here. I am a junior in high school and trying to get on top of the whole college admissions process so i have plenty of time to make decisions that will help me get admitted to Cal. I would like to go to Berk and major in Business Administration. One of my senior friends was recently admitted to Cal as an entering pre-business freshman and plans on later applying to Haas. She told me that applying as a freshmen to Haas makes it difficult to get accepted, which I have also read elsewhere.
My first question is, if I hypothetically were to apply to Haas as a freshmen and get accepted, what are the advantages of doing this over applying after my freshman or sophomore year?
To help you guys better analyze this, here are my stats:

GPA: 4.5
SAT: 2120
CR: 700
WR: 700
M: 720

Freshmen:
Spanish 01 CP
English 09 GP
Biology GP
Geometry 09 GP
Advanced Algebra (during summer at Com. College)
Symphonic Band

Sophomore:
Math Analysis HP
English 10 GP
Spanish 2 CP
World Civics GP
Chemistry HP
Wind Ensemble

Junior:
Calculus AB AP
English 11 HP
U.S. History AP
Wind Ensemble

While my course load for this year at my high school looks pathetic, it was a result of me getting many classes out of the way early on. Instead of taking more electives at my school, I instead took Real Estate Practice as well as Real Estate Principles at our Com. College. I plan on getting my real estate license as soon as i turn 18. I am anticipating that my schedule next year will consist of:

Gov./Econ HP
English 12 AP
Physics HP
Wind Ensemble

I am already enrolled for Statistics, Financial Accounting, and Real Estate Appraisal for fall 2008 at the CC. The stats and acct class transfer and the RE Appr is for my license. Second semester, I am planning on Calculus 1 and Managerial Accounting and possibly Intro to Business as my third class. In addition, i am taking American Gov. and Intro to Sociology this summer.

Extra Curriculars:
To make a long list kind of short, I have been heavily involved in student government through HS as well as Key Club, Interact, and several other clubs. I am the Senior Council Vice Pres, Band Club Brass Captain and VP, and the Key Club Pres for next year. I am very involved in music, too. I play trumpet in all the HS groups as well as the Youth Symphony, College Orchestra, and County Honor Bands.

I basically would like to know if I would have a good shot applying directly to Haas, or if i should apply pre-business... and again what the advantages of both are. Any input is appreciated!

It doesn’t matter what major you get accepted into Berkeley though it’d be best to apply to something in the College of L&S. You can’t apply into Haas until, usually, your sophomore year. You have to take a number of classes at Berkeley before becoming eligible to apply for Haas.

Sparetire, I am assuming you are right in saying that, but i have seen it mentioned elsewhere that continuing students (as in coming from highschool) have a more difficult time getting accepted into Haas than transfer students, which i took to mean that freshmen are actually able to apply to Haas. What could this mean?

I guess i should have done a little more reading (i always miss the official threads that answer most of my questions : ). I guess i may as well just turn it into a chance thread. What do you guys think?

[Undergraduate Program - Admissions - Haas School of Business](http://www.haas.berkeley.edu/Undergrad/ucbtransfer_eligibility.html)
“All courses required for admission must be completed by the end of the Spring semester prior to starting at the Haas School of Business.”

Though it is technically possible (perhaps if one started with prereq. classes in the summer before college), applying and getting into haas as a freshman is really not a viable option, as it is not possible to complete the required classes for application in time. though i am not a haas student personally, i do believe they allow only 4 semesters in the school as a undergraduate, which also means that you would have to graduate as a third-year.

[Undergraduate Program - Degree Information - Haas School of Business](http://www.haas.berkeley.edu/Undergrad/core.html)
if you look at the core classes, you can see that the curriculum is specifically designed for students in their junior and senior years - a set two-year program, which would require application and acceptance in your sophomore year of college.

That brings up another question… will it hurt me to take those business classes while i am still in high school? Like i said, i did check that they transfer. I am assuming the worst it could get would mean me just having to retake those classes?

throw away ure resume it doesnt mean crap… u gotta take the core classes here to be competitive and have some strong ec’s here not at highschool… if u were the admissions officers would u admit ureself over people who have 3.8+ gpas at berk? and yea read their website on undergrad admission it helps clear most q’s

Undergraduate Business Administration 10 must be taken at UC Berkeley. ([Source](http://www.haas.berkeley.edu/Undergrad/ucb_prereq.html)) It doesn’t seem to be offered during this summer and I doubt that the university would allow you to stop by campus to take it as a high school student. It isn’t possible for you to apply directly to Haas without pulling serious strings.
